Yasmeen Ghauri Is Still A Stunner Years After Her '90s Modeling Heyday

Yasmeen Ghauri was a '90s supermodel legend. The Canadian stunner famously had a 24-inch waist, offset by her broad athletic shoulders. With such a stunning physique and a gorgeous face, Ghauri was in a league of her own. Ghauri modeled for every major fashion house, from Chanel to Jean Paul Gaultier, as well as Dior and Victoria's Secret. She was one of the first South Asian women to grace the covers of Vogue and Elle in her heyday. She was a walking embodiment of the best beauty moments from the supermodels of the '90s with frosted makeup and a bold brow. Ghauri left the world of modeling at the peak of her career, opting instead for a life away from the spotlight, but picture below shows she is still an absolute stunner.

While Ghauri rarely posts photos of her current life, opting to keep things private, she did share one selfie with model and photographer Helena Christensen to Instagram on June 14, 2022. The two reconnected for coffee in the West Village in Manhattan. Ghauri looked as amazing as she did in the '90s, but with a much more toned-down vibe. Ghauri of course looked older, which is perfectly understandable considering her peak of fame was 30 years prior. There were streaks of gray in her hair; her bold frames added a dramatic touch to her otherwise barely-there makeup look, and her style looked very relaxed and approachable. She wore a white peasant blouse, keeping things down-to-earth, and she looked relaxed and refreshed.

How Yasmeen Ghauri changed from her '90s modeling days

Yasmeen Ghauri has one of the more unusual modeling stories. Discovered at 17 when she left a beauty salon, the model of Pakistani and German descent became one of the most famous faces in the '90s supermodel world. But then in 1997, at the pinnacle of her career, when Ghauri was only 26, she stepped away from modeling. She pulled out of a Yves Saint Laurent show at the last minute, and announced her early retirement.

This was a very unexpected thing to do. It's clear in side-by-side photos of '80s and '90s supermodels with their gorgeous daughters that many of these models not only chose to stay in the spotlight but helped their daughters become famous, as well. For Ghauri, it was the opposite. She wanted a more private life; she married engineer Ralph Bernstein and together, they welcomed two children. While many celebrities have gotten real about the career implications of pregnancy and motherhood, for Ghauri, it was slightly different. She chose to give up her career in favor of a more normal, peaceful life, choosing her family and the experience of motherhood as part of that. So not only does Ghauri look different these days — with a more simple style, gray hair, and glasses — her whole life looks different than it did when she was a '90s supermodel. She gave up on fame in order to achieve peace and privacy.
