30 quotes for 30 years–and it's still not enough.

Should you click on that little picture of the person writing this article above–yes, that's me in the yellow leather jacket! Hi!–and decide to look me up, you'd learn right away that I'm not yet 30 years old. I'm 27, three full years away from the big 3-0, but I still feel that uniquely female dread at the thought of entering into a brand new decade. (Seriously–do men feel this pressure?)

For me, birthdays are weird...almost sad. Getting older makes me think about everything I haven't yet done and reinforces the idea that time is running out. For the past few years I've even resorted to making ridiculous lists in the months before my birthday: 26 Things To Do Before I Turn 26, and other unimaginative concepts. I've never actually completed one of these birthday lists on time, which makes me feel even worse about adding that single digit to my age.

But you know what? I've had enough. I've had enough of society's obsession with youth and the constant pressure on women to look, feel, be younger than they actually are. I want to celebrate the wisdom and knowledge that comes with each passing year instead, and I want to do it now; before I turn 30 and before it's too late to kick my bad thought habits.

As the saying goes, hindsight is 20/20, so I asked women over 30 what they wished they knew before entering into their third decade of life. From lessons about love and family to quotes about independence and work, these are the 30 quotes I'll read over and over before I hit that milestone. Hopefully they'll help you, too.

We use terms like "young love" and "puppy love" to romanticize the innocence and naiveté of the relationships of our youth–but don't be fooled into thinking that relationships are better when you're young. With every passing year, it's important to recognize what we've learned about ourselves and others that will lead to stronger relationships down the road. By the time you're 30, you should be able to recognize healthy love. Need some guidance? These quotes can help.

"Notice the people who are happy for your happiness, and sad for your sadness. They're the ones who deserve the special places in your heart."

"Love + Trust + Honest = Long-Lasting Relationship"

"Don't trust what you see, even salt looks like sugar."

"If someone won't lift a finger to call you, see you, and spend time with you, it's time for you to lift 5 fingers and wave goodbye."

"Don't listen to what people say, watch what they do."

"The better person you become, the better person you will attract."

"When a friend does something wrong, don't forget all the things they did right."

In our teens and our twenties, we feel invincible. We can party 'til we pass out on Saturday night, fuel up with pancakes the next morning, and feel ahhh-mazing. As we inch closer to 30, those things start to feel less amazing...which makes us realize the importance of health and self-care. And don't think that self-care is just about your physical health! Now's the time to start strengthening your heart and soul, too.

"Health is not just about what you're eating. It's also about what you're thinking and saying."

"It's not selfish to love yourself, take care of yourself, and to make your happiness a priority. It's necessary."

"Put yourself at the top of your to-do list every single day and the rest will fall into place."

"Just be yourself. Let people see the real, imperfect, flawed, quirky, weird, beautiful, and magical person that you are."

"Self-care is so important. When you take time to replenish your spirit, it allows you to serve others from the overflow. You cannot serve from an empty vessel."

"Don't ever doubt your worth."

"If you wouldn't say it to a friend, don't say it to yourself."

"You can't pour from an empty cup. Take care of yourself first."

By now, we've all heard that men's sexuality peaks in their late teens/early twenties, and women's sexuality peaks in our thirties. Well, it's true. As 30 draws nearer, you get more confident in your body and your sexuality. Use that confidence and drive and take control of your pleasure. After all, sex should be just as much about you as it is about him–and all too often, that's not the case. These quotes should motivate you to kick that mindset to the curb.

"If you don't laugh during sex at least once, you're not having sex with the right person."

"It's not always about sex, sometimes the best type of intimacy is where you just lay back, laugh together at the stupidest things, hold each other, and enjoy each other's company."

"Be with someone who loves you and loves to give you orgasms."

In today's culture, it's easy to get wrapped up in work and building a career. Sometimes that's great, and sometimes that can shift your focus away from the things that truly matter in life. Use these motivational phrases to get your work/life balance on.

"You weren't born to just pay bills and die."

"Ten years from now, make sure you can say that you chose your life, you didn't settle for it."

"The things you are passionate about aren't random, they are your calling."

"Be stubborn about your goals, but flexible about your methods."

"You can't have a million dollar dream with a minimum wage work ethic."

So you've absorbed some wisdom about love, sex, health, and money...but what about the rest? The little moments in life that can't be categorized, but mean the most? Here are the life lessons most women wished they learned by 30. Read, recognize, and live your life right.

"The one who falls and gets up is so much stronger than the one who never fell."

"Without rain, nothing grows. Learn to embrace the storms of your life."

"Your mind will always believe everything you tell it. Feed it faith. Feed it truth. Feed it with love."

"Surround yourself with people who talk about visions and ideas, not other people."

"Give. But don't allow yourself to be used. Love. But don't allow your heart to be abused. Trust. But don't be naive. Listen. But don't lose your own voice."

"Not everyday is a good day, live anyway. Not all you love will love you back, love anyway. Not everyone will tell you the truth, be honest anyway. Not all deals all fair, play fair anyway."

"If something feels off, it is."
