Emily Roeske played the adorable Sophie Piper in the 1998 Disney film "Halloweentown." Acting alongside the legendary Debbie Reynolds, she went on to star in the sequels, playing the same character in the 2001 film "Halloweentown II: Kalabar's Revenge" and the 2004 film "Halloweentown High." However, she decided to retire from acting and stepped away from the spotlight, opting out of the franchise's 2006 film "Return to Halloweentown"

Roeske has certainly grown up since gracing the screen, looking markedly different from her early acting years and joining the young actors from the early aughts who are totally unrecognizable now. On TikTok, Roeske answered fan questions about what she's done since her Disney Channel era ended. "I retired from acting to live a normal life," she explained, adding that she went on to teach martial arts with her family. She also shared that she had two daughters and left an abusive relationship, finding love again with her fiancé at the time of writing, Jacob Arellano. She became a stepmom to his two sons, and together, they welcomed a boy named Summit. In another TikTok update, Roeske shared that she's returning to acting after a long hiatus, so fans might get a glimpse of her once more, all grown up and a long way from her child-star days on the Disney cult classic.

Emily Roeske had no idea that Halloweentown would be as iconic as it is today

Emily Roeske admitted that she had no idea how popular "Halloweentown" would become. "I was only seven in 'Halloweentown,'" Roeske explained in an October 2022 interview. "It was my first movie role, so I had no idea what to expect. I was just excited that I booked the movie and that I got to meet these amazing co-stars." Roeske later added, "I had no idea how big it would become or that it would take off and be iconic like it is today."

While Roeske stepped away from acting for a while, she still kept the spirit of the movie alive in her life. On September 15, 2026, Roeske announced on Instagram that she would be making an appearance at the Spirit of Halloweentown, an event held in St. Helens, Oregon, where the movie was filmed. Clearly, Roeske still engages with the film's fan base. In a video on TikTok, she also shared that she still stays in touch with her "Halloweentown" co-stars via social media. Otherwise, Roeske's Instagram is full of photos of her and her family enjoying autumnal activities, clearly still jiving with the magic that made "Halloweentown" so special. Take a page out of her festive book by dressing up as an iconically fashionable female character for your Halloween costume.
