Céline Dion Proves The Classiest Jewelry Trend Is Wearing Pieces That Honor Those You Love

Jewelry trends come and go. But there's one approach to accessories that never fails to be fashionable. That is, jewelry with sentimental meaning. "My Heart Will Go On" singer Celine Dion proved it when she wore a stunning collar necklace featuring a 10.1-carat diamond pendant. The necklace, which also features baguette and emerald cut gems in addition to the enormous focal stone, took over 1,100 hours to create.

But it turns out the glittering fine jewelry piece isn't just significant for its beauty or craftsmanship. Just like Kate Middleton's lavish ring stack, which is more meaningful than we ever knew, it turns out the necklace also had an incredible personal symbolism to Dion. She shared that the necklace reminded her of her late husband, music producer René Angélil, who passed away in 2016. "This is a Boucheron necklace, and it's kind of incredible because my husband always wore Boucheron perfume," Dion explained in an Instagram video featuring highlights from her Paris residency. "It's something that makes me feel like René is still here ... It's unique, just like René."

Dion has spoken openly about the deep connection she still feels to Angélil, to whom she was married for 22 years. "It's like I don't live with him physically, but I live with him inside of me," she told ABC News. Therefore, it's fitting that she still finds ways to keep his memory close to her.

Personal jewelry is timeless because it defies trends

As Celine Dion demonstrates, meaningful jewelry can be a way to feel close to your loved ones, even when they aren't near. Because these pieces are symbolic, in addition to just being aesthetically pleasing, they tend to be timeless and less subject to trends. In turn, that makes meaningful jewelry all the more classic.

Instead of focusing on summer jewelry trends to have your eye on, symbolic jewelry prioritizes self expression. "I inherited this gold, emerald, and diamond watch from my grandmother that I originally felt was too blingy for me, but I've grown into the confidence to rock it even with jeans and other casual outfits," wrote one Reddit user. "I like the connection to history and my family, and I surprisingly get a lot of compliments because it doesn't really look like anything else you'd see today." Just like personal style is timeless, using your own relationships and history to shape how you dress yourself can never go out of fashion.
