5 Summer 2024 Jewelry Trends To Have Your Eye On

If there was ever a time to buy new jewelry, it's at the beginning of summer. New seasons bring not just a change of weather, but a different mindset — especially when we're talking June, July, and August. With longer days, vacations already booked, and an updated wardrobe containing every 2024 summer fashion trend, it only makes sense that you get your jewelry in line and ready to complete every look you rock this summer.

As usual, the spring/summer 2024 fashion shows let us know what to expect once warmer weather hits. This year, much of what we saw on the runways back in September 2023 is also heating up, so you may want to consider adding it to your jewelry collection — that is, if you don't already have it.

While trends are fun, it's also important to keep in mind that they come and go. While a capsule jewelry collection may call for big investments, trend pieces should be reasonably priced and definitely not break the bank.

Mismatched earrings

Mismatched earrings are nothing new for some, but knowing they're (finally!) trendy is exciting for those who like to keep things asymmetrical. Because it is a trend, it's going to be easier to find pairs that don't match, as opposed to having to buy two matching pairs in order to create your own non-matching look.

If you're not sure you can pull this off, start small with slightly different-looking earrings, then work your way up to bigger and bolder contrasts. It not only looks cool, but also makes choosing between your favorite earrings easier: you can simply wear both.

Pastel pink

If you thought we were leaving pink behind in 2023, you thought wrong. "Soft colors like pink have been a big focus this season as well," jewelry designer Jia-Jia Zhu tells Who What Wear. "We've shuffled through a period of that Barbie pink, a fuchsia pink, and I think now it's more of a subtle pink." And because Y2K fashion and style is still hanging around, that also means chokers are hot this season. A pastel pink choker? Talk about nailing a trend.

Shells of all sizes and shapes

While last year was definitely a mermaidcore summer, this year we're switching things up a bit. While we're still sticking to shells and similar ocean-themed jewelry, it's going to be in a less Ariel-type way. In 2024, shell jewelry leans more toward stealth wealth and timeless sophistication, as opposed to kitschiness.

Layered necklaces

Yes, layered necklaces have been coming and going over the last several years, but they're back again for summer 2024. If you've yet to try the layered look, you should know there's an art to it, no matter how frazzled it may appear. "You don't want the grouping to look 'forced' or rigid. Spice your pairings up by mixing chains, pendant necklaces, and colorful beads," fashion stylist Alison Bruhn tells Marie Claire. "The point of layering necklaces is to create interesting unique looks, so relax and enjoy the process."

Cuff bracelets

If your invitation to the spring/summer 2024 shows got lost in the mail, then you missed what can only be described as cuff madness. Every designer from Loewe to Tory Burch, Louis Vuitton to Giorgio Armani, and more had their models rocking cuffs down the runway. "Statement cuffs are going to be huge for SS24 as the ultimate power pieces. Wear them solo for more of a minimalist look or lean into maximalist by stacking them," Marisa Hordern, founder and creative director of jewelry company Missoma, tells Marie Claire UK. "If you're feeling brave, double up and mix your metals."
