If You Wear One Pant Trend This Summer Make It Capris

It's official. Capri pants are back for summer 2026 (yes, again, following the capri comeback of 2023 and the capri trend of spring 2025). Though they've proven to be polarizing, there's no reason to be afraid of the calf-exposing bottoms this season. When styled right, the modern version is much more flattering than in years past, plus, they effortlessly tap into the Y2K fashion resurgence that's already been all over 2026.

"Designers like Carolina Herrera, Versace, Ralph Lauren, Isabel Marant and others featured them in their Spring/Summer 2026 collections, and reworked them in more clean, polished, and modern ways," Cynthia Kennedy, personal stylist, image consultant, and creator of Your Style Transformation Academy exclusively tells Women.com of the upgraded trend. "Unlike those casual, low-rise styles of the past; these have sharper tailoring, higher rises, and are styled more deliberately, which takes the guesswork out of wearing them. They're a much more refined, structured version," she adds. To ensure the warm-weather appropriate bottoms don't look sloppy or outdated this summer, Kennedy is breaking down the best ways to style them while we examine how fashion-forward celebs have already rocked them.

How celebrities are wearing capris in 2026

There is plenty of celeb inspo for styling trendy capris this summer. Cynthia Kennedy tells us monochromatic looks (which are great for even the laziest days) are a simple and easy way to work the cropped pant into your wardrobe. "[This] will create a long, unbroken line," she explains. "Hidden Figures" star Taraji P. Henson proved that in April in an all-black ensemble, including a satin jacket and fitted capris (though you'll want to ditch her fur-look coat for summer). "Start with black, cream or navy for a sophisticated look before trying denim or bright patterns," Kennedy also suggests.

Then there's Pussycat Doll Ashley Roberts, who wore them in March. In her white blouse, khaki capris, and white pumps (which demonstrated the sandwich styling method), she made a case for pairing the short bottoms with sleek, pointed footwear. "Avoid bulky or chunky sneakers and opt for flats, kitten heels, or pointed pumps. The aim is to choose shoes that make the leg look longer — think minimalist sandals, slingbacks or pointed heels. A sleek pointed flat or an elevated thong sandal will immediately lengthen the leg where the capri hem cuts off," Kennedy says. Added bonus; upgraded thong sandals are a major spring/summer 2026 shoe trend. The singer also demonstrated Kennedy's advice of wearing a neutral capri with structure.

Those aren't the only ways to style the capri this summer though. Kennedy recommends reaching for a high-rise pair if you're looking to define your waist and add length to the leg. She also suggests focusing on proportions. "If you're wearing a slimmer style of capri, try it with a slightly oversized blazer and crisp shirt or a relaxed tee to balance the proportions," she shares.

Capri pants are ideal for over women over 50

As we get older, following fashion trends can become more daunting. But there's no reason to worry with capris. The cropped pant is perfect for over 50s for multiple reasons beyond just being an easy way to tap into 2026's Y2K fashion resurgence. Their simplicity makes them easy to pull off and they won't appear as though you're trying too hard to be fashion-forward this summer.

They're also comfortable and a stylish alternative for those who prefer not to show too much leg in skirts or shorts. "As the weather gets warmer, they are more breathable than full-length trousers but also look more polished than shorts," Cynthia Kennedy exclusively confirms. For extra comfort, try an elasticated or loose waist, like the HDE Pull On Capri Pants, which come in multiple shades. The color range and style makes them super versatile, as they can easily be worn in the office but would also work for a warm date night. For something more casual for running errands or hanging out at home, try MLXSJ's Capri Pants. They offer a stylish, breezy alternative to sweatpants.

Kennedy also recommends older women find a pair that end at the narrowest part of the lower leg ("Above the ankle or just below the calf muscle," she says) and avoid skin-tight, stretchy pairs which can be too casual and clingy. Similarly, Kennedy suggests embracing layering. "Adding ... a well-structured jacket, blazer or cardigan will add a sophisticated element that shows intention," she says. That will also help your capri 'fit go the distance, as it'll work in early and late summer and on cooler evenings.
