The Best Romance Book For You Based On Your Zodiac Sign

Looking to become engrossed in a love story but don't know where to start? Just look to the stars. Our astrological placements can tell us more about love than you might think, including which zodiac signs are true romantics at heart to the signs that are most compatible. They can even give an insight into which romance book will have you more besotted than Heathcliff yearning for Catherine Earnshaw in "Wuthering Heights."

It doesn't matter if you're a classic Cancer looking for a fresh take on the friends to lovers trope, a hardworking Leo looking to loosen up about love, or an adventurous Sagittarius needing a love journey — these picks are sure to satisfy. To determine the novel that needs to come of your TBR list, we only chose books with an average user rating of 3.4 or more stars out of 5 on Goodreads. Each non-fiction story also needed a delicious central romance plot that we believe taps into each zodiac's signature traits.

Aries: Heated Rivalry by Rachel Reid

What better than Rachel Reid's "Heated Rivalry" to draw upon the Aries' love of speed and competition, while quenching the fire signs' desire for red-hot relationships? The second book in the "Game Changers" sports romance series centers around hockey pro Shane Hollander, who's grappling with his romantic feelings for rival team captain Ilya Rozanov. Though Ilya is different to Shane in almost every way (apart from in their unwavering love of hockey) they strike up a seriously steamy tryst. They know getting into a public relationship could put both of their careers in jeopardy, which means their goal (pun intended) is to keep their undeniable chemistry from boiling over.

"The spice is an intentional narrative tool. It shows how unbalanced their dynamic is.. giving each other everything physically while holding back affection and commitment . Which made for the most INSANE YEARNING. This book is a masterclass in tension and yearning," one Goodreads review stated. And that sensual tension will have Aries people on the edge of their seat (those who fall under this zodiac have a hard-wired desire for intense passion in the bedroom).

"Heated Rivalry" has proven so popular it's been made into a successful TV series and received an impressive response on Goodreads. The romance has an average score of 4.28 out of 5 at the time of writing, from over 368,000 ratings. And there are plenty of similar books to fill the void once you've finished "Heated Rivalry."

Taurus: The Cinnamon Bun Book Store by Laurie Gilmore

Taurus people are known to enjoy chilling and shopping, and Laurie Gilmore combines both in "The Cinnamon Bun Book Store." The cozy romance book is set in fall and will satisfy the earth sign's desire for reliability and stability. It was praised by Goodreads users for being a classic romance without jarring twists and turns. In the book, protagonist Hazel sets about deciphering a secret message she finds inside The Cinnamon Bun Book Store. But she knows she needs help to get to the bottom of things so she teams up with her intelligent crush Noah. And it's not long before sparks start flying as they put their heads together.

The book (the second in the "Dream Harbor" collection) was nominated for Readers' Favorite Romance in the 2024 Goodreads Choice Awards. It has an average Goodreads score of 3.69 at the time of writing from more than 274,000 ratings. "I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a cozy, steamy (not too bad), and unproblematic story," one reviewer wrote, which is so Taurus coded seeing as it's one of the most affectionate zodiacs.

Gemini: The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren

The Gemini zodiac is symbolized by twins, so "The Unhoneymooners" by Christina Lauren, which follows the story of identical twins Olive and Ami, couldn't be more perfect for those with this sun sign. Fortune always seems to favor Ami, who's happily in love and planning her wedding. Olive, in stark contrast, is desperately single and down on her luck. However, an unfortunate turn of events at Ami's wedding means Olive finds herself on a free vacation with Ethan, the best man. The problem? They don't exactly get on like a house on fire. After Olive runs into her boss during her unexpected trip to paradise, she digs herself into a major hole with a white lie that means she and Ethan to have to start behaving like newlyweds. Awkward.

Geminis will relate to Olive and Ami's close sibling bond while demonstrating drastically different personality traits (this air sign is notorious for being able to tap into two sides of themselves). This zodiac is also curious and dislikes routine, which Olive shows in spades as she spontaneously vacations with a man she can't stand. Also checking a box for this sign? The vacation vibes, both in the storyline and the writing, which Geminis can't get enough of. "This was the PERFECT beachy summer read. You've got an enemies-to-lovers & fake-dating thing. You've got lots of wit and a whole lot of humor. And unlike most Christina Lauren books, you get a really satisfying conclusion," one Goodreads reviewer stated. At the time of writing, the book has a 3.89 rating out of 4 on Goodreads from more than 1.1 million reviews and was a nominee for Readers' Favorite Romance at the 2019 Goodreads Choice Awards.

Cancer: Funny Story by Emily Henry

Cancers are known for their unwavering desire to create and maintain strong friendships, so Emily Henry's "Funny Story" is perfect due to its multiple friends to lovers storylines. It tells Daphne's story after she's blindsided by her fiancé Peter, who leaves her for his childhood best friend Petra. Cancers will also relate to the character's desire for loyalty from those she loves most. Heartbroken, Daphne is determined to have a fresh start and decides the best way to overhaul her life is to start rooming with someone who knows what she's going through — Petra's ex-fiancé, Miles. The odd couple don't get off to the best start as they try to make their exes think they're having the best summer ever, but soon become close friends — until it seems they may be destined to be more.

"Funny Story" took top billing on our ranking of Henry's iconic rom-com books and received high praise on Goodreads, where, at the time of writing, it has a 4.18 score from over 1.3 million ratings. It also won the 2024 Goodreads Choice Award for Readers' Favorite Romance and Readers' Favorite Audiobook. One review praised the book's strong friendships beyond the protagonists, stating, "I love Julia and Ashleigh as well – such girls girls, I would love to have friends like them." They were just as enthralled by Daphne and Miles' love story, writing, "I would have loved to live this romance."

Leo: How to Fake it in Hollywood by Ava Wilder

Ava Wilder's "How to Fake it in Hollywood" will elicit the Leo love for showbiz and glamor, all wrapped up in a wild love story. It centers around celebrity Grey Brooks, who exits a popular teen soap only to find herself struggling to make ends meet. To put her career into another upswing, she embarks on a PR stunt romance with fellow famous face Ethan Atkins, a down-and-out former Hollywood heartthrob who also needs a career boost. Leos will love reading about the attention their romance receives as the two soon start making headlines around the world as the red carpet's newest 'It' couple. However, finding real love depends on if the pair can come to terms with some tough past traumas, as the book also delves deep into Ethan's dark past.

As Leos have such an unwavering passion for the high life, this darker-than-it-seems romance will challenge that love for the spotlight. It highlights the notion that fame isn't all it's cracked up to be, which multiple Goodreads reviewers appreciated. The book has been rated more than 26,200 times and has an average star rating of 3.64 at the time of writing.

Virgo: The True Love Experiment by Christina Lauren

Virgos are notoriously hard workers who can easily slip into a habit of all work and no play. "The True Love Experiment" from Christina Lauren will remind those who fall under this earth sign that, sometimes, work doesn't have to be so serious. Main character Fizzy is a romance novelist who hasn't had the most exciting love life. She (initially reluctantly) joins forces with documentary filmmaker Connor Prince, a fish out of water who's tasked with working being the scenes on a reality TV show — despite having no experience in the genre. Before they know it, despite their differences, these two start getting closer.

The novel (a sequel to Lauren's "The Soulmate Equation") will help teach Virgos, who are notorious schedulers and planners, that love can sometimes be spontaneous. This zodiac is equally known for setting rigid goals and sticking to them, but Connor meeting Christina doing a job he had no interest in proves there's always room for a little flexibility. "The True Love Experiment" was a nominee in the Readers' Favorite Romance category at the 2023 Goodreads Choice Awards. It has an average Goodreads rating of 4.07 at the time of writing from over 198,000 ratings.

Libra: Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

"Pride and Prejudice" by Jane Austen is one of the all-time classic romance reads and a must-read for Libras (one of the most hopelessly romantic signs). Libras truly love love and they dream of spending their lives with another always by their side. They're gentle and make finding love a priority, so they will feel at home with Austen's timeless love story and romantic writing style that examines what love and marriage really means.

"Pride and Prejudice" (the romance book to reach for if you're a fan of Taylor Swift's "Fearless" album) follows the strong-willed protagonist Elizabeth Bennet. Set in 1813, she knows she's expected to marry and start a family in a world of high society, but when Mr. Darcy enters her life, she begins to question love and status. "The romance isn't a wild passion, but a slow build between two people who are wrong in their first impressions of one another, then grow to admire the other," one Goodreads reviewer wrote, highlighting why this book is perfect for diplomatic and gracious Libras. It's hugely popular too and has amassed 4.30 average score on Goodreads from over 4.8 million ratings at the time of writing.

Scorpio: November 9 by Colleen Hoover

In the Colleen Hoover romance novel "November 9," Fallon meets Ben just one day before she moves across the country. The two quickly realize they have an unexplainable connection, but Fallon's plans mean there's no way they can embark on a traditional romance. Instead, they agree to meet every year, on November 9, to share what they've been up to. Ben uses their unique situation as inspiration for his own novel, but his behavior amid their unconventional relationship starts raising serious questions for Fallon. Scorpios are famously distrusting of others, so they will likely relate to Fallon's need to question Ben amid some shifty behavior. The water sign is also notoriously passionate and loyal, which will make Fallon's decision to stay close to Ben despite the distance all too relatable.

"'November 9" is the perfect mix of humor, twists and turns, love, angst and it has that Colleen Hoover stamp that is unmistakable," one reviewer stated on Goodreads, confirming the book also taps into the Scorpio desire for teasing and finding out the truth. The fictional story may just have missed out on being one of Hoover's top five books when ranked by reviews, but it still has an impressive score of 4.10 on from over 1.3 million ratings at the time of writing.

Sagittarius: The Wisteria Society of Lady Scoundrels by India Holton

Sagittarians are all about adventure and enjoying the great outdoors. Those born under this fire sign have a rebellious nature that pushes them to do things others wouldn't, so they'll deeply relate to the characters in "The Wisteria Society of Lady Scoundrels" by India Holton. Main character Cecilia Bassingthwaighte is a high society woman enjoying the high life in Victorian England. But she's in grave danger, as Ned Lightbourne is ordered by a big bad to kill her. Cecilia (whose independence Sagittarians are sure to relate to) isn't going down without a fight though. She embarks on a adventure to save her own life and teams up with Ned, who's long has a major crush on her...

The fictional romance has been rated more than 54,000 times on Goodreads, where, at the time of writing, it sits at a score of 3.64. One five-star review stated, "It's a great combination of espionage, fairy tal-ish fantasy, smart action, regency romance with very smart and sarcastic sense of humor!" This zodiac is sure to love that sarcasm, as Sagittarians are among the three most sarcastic signs. A second reader noted, "First and foremost a swoony romance, 'The Wisteria Society of Lady Scoundrels' is also a whimsical, fantasy adventure comedy."

Capricorn: Fifty Shades of Grey by E.L. James

"Fifty Shades of Grey" by E.L. James is a modern classic for a reason. Though Capricorns can present themselves as reserved and potentially shy in the bedroom, they're actually adventurous behind closed doors. James' NSFW romance is the perfect book to bring Capricorn's often hidden desire for passion and lust the forefront. It also proves that a little less discipline and self-control (which this sign has in spades) can have its perks. The book, the first of three that was turned into a hugely successful movie, introduces us to the green Anastasia Steele. She meets the mysterious and charming businessman Christian Grey, who's intrigued by her innocence. The two soon become entangled in a seriously spicy romance that opens Steele's eyes to a whole new world.

The book, a nominee for the 2011 Goodreads Choice Award for Readers' Favorite Romance, has been rated more than 2.8 million times on Goodreads. At the time of writing, it has an average score of 3.67 out of 5. Though it's famously known for its steamy sex scenes, multiple reviewers noted there's also a pure romantic connection between Anastasia and Christian that will appeal to the more publicly reserved side of this zodiac. "I think I'm lucky to see it for what it is, a beautiful love story. Because the heart behind these fictional characters is equally compelling," one reviewer stated.

Aquarius: After Dark by Jayne Castle

Aquarians have a passion for sci-fi stories, so they're sure to be sucked in by Jayne Castle's "After Dark." Lydia Smith is a para-archaeologist who ends up working at a museum following a mysterious event involving an alien tomb (a concept that's sure to have the zodiac that famously loves technology excited). Amid some odd, seemingly-paranormal happenings, she meets a new client, Emmett London. Emmett is notoriously dangerous and not the type of guy Lydia should be getting entangled with. She knows it, too. Yet she can't help but get closer to him as things grow increasingly mysterious around her, a plot point that analytical Aquarians will lap up.

With over 10,200 reviews on Goodreads, the paranormal romance fiction book has a 4.01 average rating at the time of writing. "It's romance, suspense, thriller, paranormal, futuristic and sci-fi all in one. It could be a disaster, but it's indeed very captivating and wholly believable. What more could anyone want?" one reviewer said, confirming it hits a number of major personality traits for this air sign.

Pisces: The Ex Hex by Erin Sterling

Pisces people tend to be highly romantic and gravitate toward witchy magic, so "The Ex Hex" from Erin Sterling is their ideal romantic read. Vivienne Jones' ex-boyfriend Rhys Penhallow has returned to town, nine years after he broke her heart. Immediately following their split, Erin put a hex on him that she didn't think would have lasting effects — but she was wrong. She realizes her spell may not have been so innocent, and the exes are forced to team up to stop the magic she cast from causing serious harm. But amid the craziness, they soon remember why they fell so passionately in love all those years ago.

Pisceans will be entranced by the magical twists and turns this story brings. They'll also relate to Vivienne's desire to help the man who did her wrong, as Pisces people harbor deep compassion and empathy for those around them. As they're serious romantics too, they also won't mind the spicier elements to the fictional tale. "Hocus pocus in halloweentown but make it spicy," one review stated of the nominee for the 2021 Goodreads Choice Award in the Readers' Favorite Romance category. Readers gave the first book in the Graves Glen series an average score of 3.47 on Goodreads from over 290,400 ratings at the time of writing.

How we determined the best romance book for each zodiac sign

For this list, we only considered fiction books with an average Goodreads rating of 3.0 stars out of 5 or more. To ensure the most comprehensive overview possible, we also required each of our novels selected have at least 1,000 Goodreads reviews at the time of writing. Each book's primary genre had to be romance (novels where romance was a sub-plot were not included) and needed to represent two or more personality traits widely considered to relate to each zodiac sign.
