9 Lauren Graham Outfits That Scream Lorelai Gilmore
Lorelai Gilmore occupied a special place in 2000s fashion. As a thirty-something mother, she was never too flashy or overly trendy, but she could rock dark denim flares with the best of them. Her connection to her youth in the '80s came through in her enviable collection of graphic tees, but they were always topped with a polished blazer or weather-conscious sweater. (She did love the snow.) She was the style blueprint for combining maturity, authenticity, and straight-up radness for her generation.
Of course, there was a flesh and blood woman wearing those outfits, and as much as we might like to fantasize otherwise, she wasn't Lorelai Gilmore. Lauren Graham has differentiated herself from her WB counterpart in a variety of roles on the big and small screen as well as a bestselling collection of personal essays but also in her fashion sense, which tends to lean darker and more practical than the elder Gilmore girl. Still, she occasionally gives us glimpses of the reigning Lorelai.
The snow suit
No one knew how to accessorize like Lorelai Gilmore. That was partially out of necessity, since the chilly Connecticut climate often left her frolicking in the snow (not that she complained, except when she did). She would have been right at home in this fleece scarf and knit beanie in wintry shades of blue and gray topping a black turtleneck and overcoat that Graham wore in an Instagram photo from March 2024. All that's missing is a thick pair of mittens wrapped around a takeout coffee from Luke's.
The 2000s meets 2010s
Lauren Graham was the embodiment of 2005 right through 2016, when she was photographed walking in the rain in this ensemble. The dark denim flares? Check. Slinky top? Check. Oversize handbag to hold the products of her Lorelai-esque shopping sprees? Mega check. A structured blazer and chunky jewelry finish off the look. Though she nudged the outfit reluctantly into the modern era with a pair of aviator sunglasses, the beat-up sneaks (a must for strolling around Stars Hollow) are classic Lorelai.
The martini sweater
As Lorelai made sure everyone who saw the Season 5 episode "How Many Kropogs to Cape Cod?" remembers, her drink is a martini. It's always been a martini, no matter how vehemently her maddeningly inscrutable mother insists otherwise. Diehard viewers also remember that she takes it with one olive, not two, but that doesn't mean Lorelai wouldn't go gaga for this sweater that Graham wore in an Instagram photo in April 2024. It's just kitschy enough to match her sense of whimsy, though Graham updated it with a pair of light wash boyfriend jeans.
The leather jacket and printed dress
Lorelai Gilmore might have been the only mom in New England who could wear a black leather jacket throughout all of fall without looking like she was going to a Halloween party as Nancy Spungeon. The key to pulling it off? Fun, feminine details. On "Gilmore Girls," Lorelai often paired her leather jackets with sleek base layers or colorful graphic tees, but this form-fitting dress printed with bold floral branches that she wore in an Instagram photo in April 2024 has the same softening effect. The bright yellow peep-toe platform shoes are just the pop of color that would make Lorelai giddy.
The leather pants
Lorelai was a rebellious teenager — that's how they became the "Gilmore Girls" in the first place. She kept that rock and roll edge as she matured, but she toned it down with a touch of sophistication, as Graham does with these leather pants she was photographed wearing in 2025. The looser fit and straighter leg keep it more casual than the skintight '80s look, and while young Lorelai might have paired it with a ripped band tee, Graham stays Connecticut cozy even in California with a knit cardigan.
The velvet suit
Lorelai loved disco in a way that only a person who prepares for a tough interaction by dancing in their car to the Bee Gees can. Lauren Graham wore this purple velvet suit, open to reveal a bejeweled tank, to a promotional event for the book of essays she published in 2022, but Lorelai would have taken it to the dance floor in an instant. The fact that it screams "Prince protege" — just like her idol, Susanna Hoffs — wouldn't hurt.
The pastel blazer
No one can say Lorelai didn't know her colors. With her dark hair and bright eyes, she shined in icy shades that matched the snowy backdrop of Stars Hollow. Graham took a page out of her playbook when she wore this pastel blue blazer to the Season 2 premier of "The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers" in 2022, though she made it her own with a black top and pants. This would be Lorelai's go-to for a business meeting, parent-teacher conference, or disastrous magazine profile.
The polka dot dress
Who could forget the dance marathon episode in Season 3 of "Gilmore Girls" — or, more importantly, the retro polka dot dress Lorelai wore as she danced the day (and her daughter's drama) away? Graham was totally channeling that moment at a promotional event for "Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life" in 2017. Her more modern take included a flowier silhouette and strategic cutout, but the blocky heels and red nails would have Lorelai saying, "Flip all you want, pal, this ain't the Olympics."
The everyone loves an Irish girl tee
In March 2024, Graham made her Instagram debut in a green tee festooned with hearts and clovers and the words "Everyone loves an Irish girl" that Lorelai would have snapped up in a heartbeat at a yard sale. How do we know? The next slide in the post actually shows Graham wearing the shirt in an episode of "Gilmore Girls." How much of her wardrobe do you think she got to keep? And is she giving away any of those tees?
