Goldie Hawn's Most Unfortunate Makeup Missteps Over The Years
Although originally known for playing the stereotypical blond on "Laugh-In" in the 1960s, Goldie Hawn proved she's anything but that, expanding her roles and becoming an icon thanks to films like "The First Wives Club" and "Death Becomes Her." While she doesn't act as much as she used to, she still stays busy. On top of being an activist, having launched the Hawn Foundation in 2003, Goldie Hawn is also teaching lessons in confidence for older women by posting photos on social media that not everyone would. This has made her into a refreshing fashion and beauty icon.
As much as the actor's charm and talent are undeniable, she's not always as put-together as it may seem. Hawn has been guilty of wearing some inappropriate outfits on more than one occasion, and experienced some unfortunate makeup missteps over the years — the latter of which might have something to do with her not always using a mirror to apply makeup. "If I'm going to put my blush on, I know what I need to do in order to do it, and how many times I need to go over it in order to get there," Hawn told Beauty Geeks in May 2013, adding that she doesn't need a mirror for eyeliner either. "And my lips are big enough that I can throw something on them and they find their way."
While being able to put on makeup sans a mirror sounds impressive, it's not advisable. From lipsticks that haven't done her any favors to occasional eyebrow blindness, Hawn has experienced a whole spectrum of makeup faux pas. Which, if anything, has made her girl-next-door persona more relatable.
When her lipstick was too pale for her overall look
Goldie Hawn is no stranger to a bright lip, but when she attended the premiere for "Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery" in November 2022, her ultra pale pink gloss just couldn't keep up. While a red or a dark, vampy lip would have been a bit much, had she gone with a bolder shade, like a red, she could have avoided looking like she wanted her lips to disappear. It also doesn't help that she's wearing black, which matches her heavy eye makeup, causing her mouth to blend in with the rest of her face.
When her lipstick was too neon pink
In December 2018, Goldie Hawn attended the 4th Annual Make Equality Reality Gala in Hollywood alongside her friend and fellow actress Melanie Griffith. While both women looked great, Hawn's neon pink lipstick was quite the distraction and not in a good way. The bright hue didn't coordinate well with her outfit, golden warm hair, nor the rest of her makeup. Adding to the equation, is the fact that Hawn is making herself look older with a common lipstick blunder: underdrawing. Lips naturally get thinner with age due to decreased collagen and elastin, so when applying makeup, you want to do a slight overdraw, no matter the color, to make sure they have a nice shape.
When she had a case of blush blindness
When Goldie Hawn took the stage in September 2025 for the Concordia Annual Summit, she was committing two blush sins. Firstly, she used too much of it. As women get older, the go-to makeup technique should always be less-is-more, because fine lines in mature skin can be easily highlighted due to its lack of elasticity. Secondly, Hawn's blush placement is too low, creating a sagging effect on her face. To prevent this, the old-fashioned smile trick is still the best technique for blush application.
When she took the goth route with the eyeliner
As we've seen over the years, Goldie Hawn loves eyeliner. But sometimes, she takes it bit too far — as she did here in this September 202 photograph — and ends up looking like a teenager going through her goth phase. It's not just that the color is too dark for her, especially since she's opted for a very light, barely-there lipstick shade, but it's also too thick. Instead of highlighting her blues eyes, the dark hue is so overwhelming that it creates a raccoon effect, making her stick out like a sore thumb next to everyone else in the photo wearing lighter makeup.
When her foundation didn't match her neck and chest
As much as we adore Goldie Hawn, she's a stark reminder of how important sunblock is. The superstar is a product of her generation in which baking in the sun for hours wasn't only accepted, but a '70s beauty trend we hope never comes back.
Because of this, her neck and chest just naturally took on a darker appearance due to the sun damage. While matching one's foundation to sunspots may seem like a strange thing to do, if you don't want to appear off balance with a facial foundation that's too light, it's something to consider.
When she suffered from a case of eyebrow blindness
For most, the hardest part of any makeup routine is shaping your eyebrows. That's why eyebrow blindness can happen to anyone, even legends like Goldie Hawn. In October 2017, the actor attended the amfAR Gala, appearing to have left her arches behind, since they blended in with her hair color. Eyebrows and hair should complement each other, but don't have to match. Had she gone one shade darker with her brow pencil, she could have avoided this.
When a Q-Tip could have saved her eye makeup
When you wear a lot of dark eye makeup like Goldie Hawn, it's always a good idea to have a Q-Tip or cotton round within reach to clean up any smudges. In March 2023, Hawn posted a video to her Instagram, appearing as though she didn't double-check her eye makeup before going on camera. The heavy black eyeliner on her lower lid looked smeared, suggesting she either she skipped the primer or just got up from a nap. Combined with her light-colored blazer, this mistake couldn't be more obvious.
When she let the bronzer steal the show
In 2005, Goldie Hawn attended Glamour Magazine's Women of the Year Awards and appeared to have gotten into a row with her bronzer, in which it won. Not only is Hawn an unnatural shade of orange, but because of the amount of bronzer used, her eyebrows aren't as standout a feature as they could be. While bronzer is a great way to give yourself a healthy glow, you can overdo it and that's exactly what Hawn has done here, making her brows appear one with her forehead, and something she can't seem to see.
