Teyana Taylor Outfits That Totally Missed The Mark

If you haven't heard of Teyana Taylor yet, it's time to pay attention. The multi-hyphenate has built a professional resume singing, songwriting, acting, and choreography, and on top of that, scored a Golden Globe award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance as Perfidia Beverly Hills in 2025's "One Battle After Another." In other words, Taylor's career, which was already off to a great start, is positioned to skyrocket.

In addition to all her talent, Taylor has proven that she knows how to dress for the occasion. While she didn't make Women's best and worst looks from the 2025 Met Gala — after all, we can't list everyone — she was definitely one of the best dressed of the night, having nailed the "Superfine: Tailoring Black Style" theme perfectly. "I'm already not a big dress girl," Taylor told Vogue in May 2025 regarding her outfit for the gala. "I'm in suits even without it being a suit theme."

As much as Taylor has worn some stunning, even breathtaking looks, there have been moments where she lost the plot. When this happens — and it does to everyone from time-to-time — Taylor found herself in outfits that simply didn't work or what she chose to wear wasn't appropriate for the occasion. But considering we live in a world where even Beyoncé and Jennifer Aniston have worn looks that totally missed the mark, it's not a bad thing. If anything, it's a learning experience, and as Albert Einstein said (reportedly), "Once you stop learning, you start dying," and no one wants that.

Taylor should have left the sculpting mask at home

In September 2025, Teyana Taylor attended the "One Battle After Another" London premiere wearing this very eclectic look from Oude Waag's fall 2025 collection. But while the color, fabric, and leather bra top served up some major revolutionary vibes, putting Taylor in the group of celebs who took method dressing to the next level while promoting movies, the headpiece is really taking away from the whole ensemble. It looks like Taylor woke up, got ready for the premiere, but totally forgot to remove her sculpting mask.

Dresses that resemble garbage bags are always a risky choice

Just a week before the London screening, Teyana Taylor attended the world premiere of "One Battle After Another" at the TCL Chinese Theatre IMAX and brought similar revolutionary vibes to the red carpet. However, again she missed the mark. Although the army green leather dress by Marc Jacobs and the matching Kiki Knee-High boots, made sense to promote the film as it appeared to be a nod to her character, from a fashion perspective, the ensemble looked cheap. Unless you're up close to it, the dress could easily pass for a garbage bag. This is the perfect example of when avant-garde fashion goes wrong.

Channeling the Komondor dog breed with this coat

To keep warm at the 2025 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, Teyana Taylor went with this coat by Moncler x Jil Sander. While it's likely, based on past fashion choices, Taylor was sticking to show-stopping, conversation-inducing ensembles, the tragedy here is that the coat looks like she's trying to channel a Komondor — the Hungarian dog breed that far-too-closely resembles a mop. Granted, the temperature that day was in the mid-40s, with wind chills knocking it down so much that it felt more like it was in the 30s, but this coat isn't the answer.

One naked dress too many at this point

While Teyana Tayor is showing us exactly how to pull off a topless blazer moment in this Tom Ford by Haider Ackermann look that she wore to the Time100 Next in October 2025, it's just all a bit much for the occasion. As much as Taylor has the body — and free will — to wear whatever she wants, this outfit is better suited for the club, as opposed to a ceremony where you're being celebrated for your talent and achievements. In fact, when it comes to style resolutions that we'd like celebs to make in 2026, we included Taylor leaving the naked dress trend in 2025.

Looking so out of character it's hard to find the Teyana Taylor in here

In January 2024, Teyana Taylor attended the National Board of Review Awards Gala wearing this gown by Christopher John Rogers in cerulean blue, no less, with gold chrome heels. While the dress is absolutely stunning, it just seems deeply off-brand for Taylor. So much so that one has wonder whose decision it was for her to wear this in the first place. Of course, she's absolutely slaying it with this pixie cut to inspire your next super short haircut, but overall, the ensemble feels deeply out of character for Taylor.

Should have left the cultural appropriation at home

When Teyana Taylor hit up the Heineken House at the 2023 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in April 2023, she immediately became a victim of outdated trends you don't want to be caught wearing at Coachella.  In this case, Taylor's look reeked just a little too much of cultural appropriation, particularly due to the fringe jacket, which is a popular look in many Native American cultures, as seen on this design, in addition to the double lip cuffs, which are reminiscent of the labret, which was common in some indigenous traditions.

The fact is if you're not an indigenous person, no matter how much you appreciate their culture and fashion, it's just not okay to rock their looks — especially at a festival where it's done far too often and with zero regard to how offensive it can be.

Interesting look, not the right occasion

When attending the launch of anyone's brand or project, the last thing you want to do is upstage the guest of honor. But Teyana Taylor appeared to ignore this unspoken fashion rule when attending the launch of the Messika By Gigi Hadid, "My Soul" Jewelry Collection at Milk Studios back in September 2018. For the occasion, she showed up in a bright green and blue vinyl coat dress. While we have to get it to Taylor for taking a fashion risk with this eclectic, avant-garde piece, the look comes across as very busy, very loud, and lacks any rhyme or reason beyond bringing attention to the star.

Not exactly dressed to stroll the streets of NYC

In October 2025, Teyana Taylor was spotted on the streets of New York City wearing this outfit and it's another one that asks more questions than delivers answers. Although the belted black blazer with the white button-down is in its own way considered classic, it's the skirt that's boggling to the mind. Not only is the waist so big that it looks like Taylor could tuck a small child or puppy into it, but the zipper and button are off-center and closer to her side hip than it should be. As we scan down the length of the garment, it also appears to be awkwardly tight and too long, which begs the question: where is Taylor going and will she be able to walk there in this look? Probably not.

Rocking a bit too much burgundy for brunch

As much as monochromatic looks make for winning outfits when you're feeling lazy, it's possible to absolutely overdo it. When Teyana Taylor attended the PSIFF Creative Impact Awards and 10 Directors to Watch Brunch in Palm Springs in January 2026, she decided to stick to burgundy. While it's certainly an ideal color for the season, between the high-neck, full-length dress and belted leather coat, it's just a lot — especially for a brunch, of all things. Although Taylor does seem to enjoy wearing a lot of dark shades, when you arrive to a brunch looking more like an assassin than someone who's there to dine on petit fours and caviar, you've missed the mark completely.
