4 Times Karoline Leavitt Completely Missed The Mark On 2025 Butter Yellow Trend

We're giving credit to Karoline Leavitt for trying the butter yellow trend, however her execution was off many times. The butter yellow trend was a hugely popular color throughout 2025; narrowing in on the creamy neutral of butter itself. The shade took off thanks to its sunny, warm palette. It offered the versatility of a beige or white, but with more varied interest, since butter yellow meets at the crossroads between cream and canary yellow. 

Best of all, butter yellow proved to be wearable enough to work all year long. Butter yellow was named the new neutral for fall 2023, going on to be the on-trend color for spring and summer 2025, proving essential for all kinds of warm-weather outfits. The tone also got the royal stamp of approval, with Kate Middleton jumping on the butter yellow trend at a royal garden party in spring 2025. So with all of this in mind, it makes perfect sense that Leavitt has gravitated towards the popular color. The only problem is that she's consistently failed at styling it. Leavitt once butchered the butter yellow trend with sloppy styling, but there have been many other instances, too.

While the focus of the event was President Donald Trump's "Big, Beautiful Bill", it's hard not to think of Leavitt's outfit as a distraction. She paired a warm-tone, butter yellow blazer over a scoop neck top in a slightly cooler shade. While it's clear Leavitt what was going for, the clashing temperatures between the garments was jarring and came across as sloppy. Had she played with different textures to create dimension it may have worked, but as is, this outfit just looks like two pieces from different designers that were never meant to be worn together.

Butter yellow is generally a winning color for a springtime celebration. But unfortunately, in Leavitt's case, her attempt to bring the trend into her 2025 Easter outfit missed the mark. For one, Leavitt's blond hair clashed with the similarly-colored sleeveless dress, resulting in an overall look that lacked contrast and range. Instead, it washed her out and a different tone of yellow would have stood out more. The other problem was Leavitt's choice of shoes. Her white heels with strappy ankle ties cut off her legs and, with the knee-length hem of her dress, the outfit had too many horizontal lines that made her look shorter. That said, all hope is not lost. We know that she can serve up stylish outfits. Leavitt's rare flattering 'fit reminds us of her fashion potential, and she looks best when she opts for longer hemlines in fitted dresses of richer colors. This shorter, butter yellow look with the girlish hem made Leavitt look childish.

The focus of the trade show was President Donald Trump's changing policies on tariffs, which raised heated opinions from his opponents. Leavitt, as the White House Press Secretary, was a key figure during this event. 

Once again, Leavitt opted for the butter yellow trend, this time through a pair of slacks and a thick cardigan. She paired the look with neutral, pointy toe flats with a diamond strap, and wore her hair in an updo. The outfit wasn't one of Leavitt's worst by any means, but the tapered slacks and boxy cardigan aged her. The cut of the butter yellow cardigan was notably unflattering, cutting her off in the middle of her body, making her upper body appear top-heavy. Leavitt has been repeatedly called out for wearing frumpy, aging outfits, and this particular butter yellow fit is included. Our hypothesis for this conundrum is that Leavitt is the youngest press secretary in White House history, getting the job when she was just 27, and she is likely overcompensating for her age by dressing in older styles. 

Karoline Leavitt went for yet another butter yellow look, but this time in the form of a sleeveless vest and matching slacks. She exhibited the fit in a video on Instagram in June 2025 when TikTok running influencer Kate Mackz, famous for her quick interviews, visited Leavitt at the White House. Mackz usually gets her interviewees to run with her, but for this particular video, the two women walked on the White House grounds and into the White House itself. It's worth noting that people were really upset with Mackz for interviewing Leavitt, and the jogging interviewer got in a lot of heat for this particular interview. 

Leavitt's sleeveless, butter yellow vest was long on her small frame, cutting off at her upper thighs. She paired this with tonal, flared slacks that cut off just above her ankle, and finished off the look with nude heels. The outfit engulfed her, coming off as oversized and simply too big for Leavitt. And because butter yellow is a noticeable tone, the outfit was that much more obvious.
