Fall 2025 Hair Color Trends You'll Be Seeing Everywhere

As we get further into fall 2025, it's time to consider your hair color. Will you be sticking with what you've had all year, or will you lean into the color trends of the moment, taking your hair to the next level? If every season is a new opportunity to reinvent yourself, then you definitely want to make some changes — especially if you're indulging in the fashion trends of fall 2025 that are everywhere.

While fall tends to offer up darker and richer tones than the rest of the year, it doesn't mean that every autumn is the same concerning what those actual shades will be. Because of this, Women exclusively spoke to celebrity hairstylist, Iggy Rosales, to get the scoop on what to expect in fall 2025. "This fall is about depth, warmth, and light that feels real," says Rosales, adding that early 2025 was about polished and tonal locks. "Now people want color that feels touched by the sun, like it's been lived in," explains Rosales. Lived-in hair makes transitioning to a new color easier, creating a seamless and more natural look. It's also low-maintenance, which you'll appreciate as the holiday season begins and social obligations start.

While some fall hair color trends of the past stuck to only a few shades, this year, they're all over the place. This not only means there's something for everyone, but it also gives you the chance to try one color, then pull a 180-degree move and try another before winter arrives. In other words, fall 2025 is definitely the year to experiment with your hair color.

Liquid copper brunette matches the season perfectly

Copper tones are always en vogue in the fall, but this year, that copper should have a liquid feel to it, meaning that copper glow should move in the light, as Iggy Rosales exclusively tells Women. "[Liquid copper brunette is] perfect for someone who wants to add warmth without going full red," says Rosales. "It feels rich and cinematic." If you're someone who firmly believes in main character energy and you've been waiting for the opportunity to join the list of celebs who have the copper hair trend down to a science, now's the time to enter the chat.

Vanilla smoke blond turns down the bright blond of summer

While blond doesn't necessarily work on everyone, when it's toned down with a soft, creamy touch and a smoky finish, it quickly becomes more accessible for more people. "Vanilla smoke blond feels clean, cool, and expensive," says Iggy Rosales. "It works beautifully on lighter skin tones and anyone who likes a quiet, understated look." Quiet luxury may no longer be trending, according to the fashion experts who predicted what would be outdated in fall/winter 2025, but that doesn't mean your hair needs to follow suit.

Cherry cola gloss is still trending in fall 2025

Although in early 2025, it looked as though cherry cola was going to be one of the hairstyles to leave behind in 2024, as the temperatures drop and the days get shorter, that thinking has shifted and it's being welcomed back into the fold. "Cherry cola gloss is a dark brunette with a red violet tint that shows up in sunlight," explains Iggy Rosales. As Rosales points out, it's a color that's both playful and nostalgic, but also very wearable, making it a great fit for fall 2025 — even if the queen of cherry cola hair herself, Dua Lipa, has moved past it.

Gray blending is a fun and empowering way to embrace your grays

In 2025, we heard a lot about the low-maintenance hair technique that helps you transition to gray hair seamlessly. If embracing your grays is something you still want to do, but you also want to be on-trend, then don't worry: the grays are here to stay. "Gray blending is continuing to gain more and more popularity," colorist Olivia Casanova told Vogue, adding that it's not only easier to maintain, but easier on the wallet too. "I think more women are empowering one another to age gracefully and more naturally," Casanova told the magazine, and it's true. Gray is finally having the moment it deserves, with many people, including a whole slew of celebs, embracing their natural grays.

To keep things timeless, go for an inky espresso shine

While blue-black hair was big in 2024, in fall 2025, we're dropping the blue and getting as near-black as possible. Because let's be honest: you can never go wrong with this level of intensity. That's especially the case when a reflective finish is added to the color, making it extra glossy. "Inky espresso shine is strong, minimal, and timeless," says Iggy Rosales. It's also so luxuriously rich in its appearance that no matter what style you decide to cut, it will work because the color is such a statement-maker in itself.

Burnt caramel is the balayage of the season

When it comes to fall hair color trends, you simply can't get through the season without some take on caramel. For fall 2025, that caramel comes in the form of the burnt caramel balayage, where soft shades of caramel are interspersed throughout the darker tones, giving the hair a multi-dimensional look. "It flatters almost everyone and adds natural light around the face," Iggy Rosales exclusively tells Women. If you're looking for a hair color to try that will pump up your basic brunette, burnt caramel balayage is the way to go.

Dark chocolate is great for those who aren't ready to go black

Not everyone may feel ready to dive right into a near-black hair color; some need to work up to it, and that's where a very dark chocolate brunette comes in. "Brunettes are going glossy with espresso and chocolate tones, often paired with subtle 'money-piece' highlights for brightness around the face," celebrity colorist George Papanikolas told Harper's Bazaar, adding that it's all about the "tone-on-tone effect," essential in keeping the color's overall look sophisticated and dazzling.

Honey butter blond is ideal for staying blond all year

For those who can't possibly fathom straying from their blond locks, no matter the season, allow us to introduce honey butter blond. As Iggy Rosales exclusively tells Women, it's a golden blond with just enough creamy warmth to work well throughout the summer and well into fall. "It's perfect for anyone who wants to look sunlit even when it's cold out," says Rosales. Also, because it's so seamless in color distribution, it's a great choice for people with pin-straight hair, in case you want to try a classic bob and get in on one of the trendiest short hair looks for fall 2025.

Tap into your artsy side with calico hair

Because committing to one color isn't always easy, the 2024 animal-inspired look for your hair is back for fall 2025. "[Calico] is bold but still versatile, allowing you to embrace seasonal tones while experimenting with a more artistic, dimensional look," hair color specialist Maria Nino told The Zoe Report. With calico hair, you also have the option to go as bold and bright as you want, or you can take things in a subtle direction with the colors you choose and just how chunky you want those pieces throughout your hair to be. It's a color that surprisingly offers many variations.
