Since she first started dating Prince William, the world hasn't been able to turn away from Kate Middleton. No matter where she goes, there's always an onslaught of fans and paparazzi right behind her watching her every move. Because of this, like Princess Diana before her, Middleton has learned that what she wears matters. From the special meaning behind the shade of blue she wore for 2025's Trooping the Colour to her ability to turn a pantsuit into a sleek fashion moment, everything Middleton wears sends a message or makes some sort of statement.

Although Middleton has a very varied wardrobe when it comes to colors, she tends to wear more white and cream than other people. Not only because she's clearly one of the few who can wear these colors for an entire day and remain stain-free, but for a deeper reason. "Kate's choice of clothing always gives away how she wants to be perceived at a certain engagement," body language expert Darren Stanton told Marie Claire in June 2022, explaining that white is Middleton's go-to for neutrality. "She wears white when she is trying to deflect attention away from herself or wants to ensure all eyes are on William instead... White is also the color she chooses when she attends more solemn and respectful events and she wants the attention to be focused purely on the event itself."

In other words, with her social calendar, there's often a reason for Middleton to wear these colors. If you need a little encouragement to wear all white too, then the Duchess of Cambridge is all the inspo you need. Just don't forget the Tide OxiPro.

2011: Making her first Wimbledon appearance in Temperley London

In 2011, Kate Middleton attended Wimbledon for the first time and was well prepared to meet the demands of the fans and paparazzi alike. Wearing a white tiered dress by Temperley London, the newest member of the royal family not only nailed the look, but brought a bit of the summer tenniscore trend to the event. It was a moment that also set a precedence as to what could be expected from the Duchess in terms of fashion. Although her personal style has certainly evolved since 2011, Middleton has always made it a point to wear a lot of London-based designers, so starting off with Temperley was a smart move.

2011: Gorgeous in a sailor-inspired dress

What's so great about this cream knit, sailor-inspired dress isn't just the fact that it's a cheeky, fun design by Alexander McQueen, but it's also a look that Kate Middleton ended up recycling in her public appearances. While in this photo she's wearing it for a visit to the Province House on Prince Edward Island on July 4, 2011, if we jump forward a year, she wears it again for Wimbledon in 2012. The cream dress with the navy lines is perfect for both occasions, proving that the house of Alexander McQueen has kept McQueen's vision alive of creating dresses that are equally beautiful and versatile.

2011: Recycling the dress she wore in her engagement photos in 2010

Speaking of recycling, this is another look that Kate Middleton has worn in public more than once. The first time we saw this Reiss dress was in a series of engagement photos that were released by Clarence House Press Office on December 11, 2010. Although Middleton had yet to solidify herself as a fashion icon, she and Prince William had their engagement shoot done by famed fashion photographer Mario Testino. Less than a year later, Middleton chose to wear the dress again while attending a citizenship ceremony in July 2011 at the Canadian Museum of Civilization. However, this time she brought some color to the ensemble, opting for red heels, a red fascinator, and a wicker clutch with a dash of red in it too.

2014: Stunning in cream eyelet for Wimbledon

Of all the dresses that Kate Middleton has worn to Wimbledon over the years, this is one of her best looks. In 2014, Middleton wore this off-white eyelet dress by Zimmerman to the event and, naturally, immediately stole the show. If you look closely, you'll see she has the same wicker clutch that she was carrying while in Canada in 2011 while wearing her engagement photos dress. If that weren't enough in regards to how dedicated Middleton is to recycling her outfits and accessories, she had first been spotted in this Zimmerman dress while in Australia earlier that year. It's a perfect summer dress for all occasions.

2016: All lace for the Royal Ascot

When you're attending the races, it's absolutely necessary that you bring you're A-game, fashionably speaking, and Kate Middleton does exactly that here. Wearing another dress by Alexander McQueen, this gorgeous lace, tea-length dress — with a matching hat of course — was what Middleton wore to the Ascot in 2016. It's a dress that's elegant enough for an evening dinner and refined enough for an afternoon at the races. Although she could have added a bit of color to her outfit, as she'd done in the past, all-white is peak summer chic no matter if you're the Duchess of Cambridge or not.

2019: Elegantly slaying the off-the-shoulder look

Because Kate Middleton tends to be fairly conservative in her outfit choices, this look definitely raised some eyebrows — in a good way. The cream off-the-shoulder dress by Barbara Casasola was what Middleton wore to first annual Addiction Awareness Week gala in June 2019. With her hair long and cascading over her shoulders like she's part model and part mermaid, the Duchess completed the entire look with a silver clutch by Wilbur & Gussie and silver glitter Jimmy Choo heels. Middleton has been spotted in these beauties a few times, including the 2019 BAFTA Awards and other events in 2020, because as we all know, glitter like sequins, should be worn all year round

2022: Channeling Jackie O. for ANZAC Day services at Westminster Abbey

We may not have royalty in the U.S., but we have — or rather had — the Kennedys and that's pretty darn close. Everything about this outfit that Kate Middleton is wearing is giving off Jackie O. vibes, from the stunning and perfectly-fitted Alexander McQueen coat to the matching hat, and even the black clutch and heels. Considering Middleton was attending 2022's ANZAC Day, which honors Australians and New Zealanders who have died during service, the white represents respect and solemnity for those who lost their lives. It's an absolute class act move on Middleton's part to attend such an event in this color, while also keeping the look sophisticated and dignified.

2022: Head-to-toe white in Jamaica

Just a month before 2022's ANZAC Day, in March, Kate Middleton was in Kingston Jamaica as part of the Royal Tour of the Caribbean. Because the arrival of Middleton and Prince William was met with protests due to England's very long history of colonization, many in the country signed a letter demanding reparations for what had been stolen from them. While William made a speech in which he said, "Slavery was abhorrent and it never should have happened," per Time, he never actually apologized. So, the fact that Middleton chose to wear all white suggests that she was doing her best to be respectful of what the Jamaican people lost. Granted, she did this while wearing an Alexander McQueen dress in a country where 12.6% lived below the poverty line the year of the visit, but at least she tried.

2023: Perfecting the monochromatic look for the holiday season

As we've already seen with her collection of pantsuits, Kate Middleton knows how to put together a monochromatic look to create a winning outfit. However, this is a whole other level of monochromatic, because it's not just a pantsuit, but a long coat, a handbag, and heels that Middleton wore for the "Together At Christmas" Carol Service at Westminster Abbey in December 2023. And, yet, to no surprise it works on Middleton, serving up a casual ensemble that's still perfect for royalty.
