Though Dakota Johnson may rank among the celebrities who are unrecognizable with their natural hair color, the actor remains an identifiable beauty when going makeup-free. The "50 Shades of Grey" star provided a glimpse into her au naturale appearance in a Vogue video as she documented her getting-ready process for the 2025 Cannes Film Festival. Her clear complexion and natural brows were on full display as she sat in a salon chair, introducing Georgie Eisdell as her trusted makeup artist and Mark Townsend as her long-time hairstylist.

If you've ever wondered about Johnson's beauty routine, the behind-the-scenes video brings some insight, with Eisdell using a TheraFace PRO Microcurrent Facial Device from TheroBody and applying undereye masks before starting on the actor's makeup look. "Skin prep is so important to every look I create," the makeup artist told New Beauty in 2024. "It helps calm the skin, gives me the perfect canvas for makeup, and takes care of any skin concerns my client may have."

We're not surprised that a facial massager is part of Johnson's red carpet prep, as she told Vogue Australia in 2022 that a vibrator was a staple of her morning skincare routine. "I know this is weird — Drop is a personal massager — but it really does amazing things for your face," she told the outlet with a laugh. "In the morning, people wash their faces and I use a vibrator on my face." Still, it's nice to know that the star has upgraded.

Dakota has spilled other skincare secrets

While Dakota Johnson has cultivated a cool-girl style with her enviable outfits, her makeup-free appearance is stunning enough to turn any skincare enthusiast green with envy. Luckily, "The Social Network" actor provided some insight into her beauty regimen beyond her affinity for personal massagers, opening up to Glamour back in 2017. "I truly have the simplest routine," she said. "I wash my face in the morning and at night, then moisturize; during the day I add sunscreen. Right now I'm into Lancer products."

Johnson also seems to be tuned into uses for coconut oil in her beauty routine, revealing in 2018 that she started using the natural moisturizer when filming "Suspiria" in the Italian Alps. "It was cold as s**t, and so dry," she told Elle. "The only thing that helped was dousing myself with oil every night. Now I can't get enough." While we don't know if she uses a specific brand, SheaMoisture's 100% Extra Virgin Coconut Oil marks a solid pick.

The Texas native also has some notable self-care practices outside of her favored beauty products and skincare techniques, with Johnson telling The Wall Street Journal that she exercises regularly, highlighting hot yoga and weight training as go-tos, and practices transcendental meditation. "I will get in a bathtub at any moment, any time of the day," she added. "If in the middle of the day, I'm like, 'Oh God, what is this world?' I'll get in the bathtub. I find water really grounding." With these beauty secrets in mind, it's no wonder that Johnson's natural beauty shines so bright.
