Here's What Went Down With Wedy Wedding Packages After Shark Tank

It was a labor of love for Rumaiza Ali and her husband and business partner Anas Ali when they created in 2020 Wedy Wedding, an app designed to streamline the tedious process of wedding planning. Prior to their appearance on season 15 of "Shark Tank," the couple took from their own experiences with the challenges of planning a wedding. According to the Wedy website, they were overwhelmed with not only the planning, but hidden costs, "endless contact forms," and waiting to hear back from the various vendors they contacted.

Rumaiza and Anas were just the right people for the job, as Rumaiza is a former architect, who now works in the luxury destination wedding planning industry, while Anas is an aeronautical engineer, "Shark Tank's" blog noted.

Wedy allows vendors to create accounts to list the different services they offer, which will be bundled based on the couple's budget. When customers create an account, they will tell the app what they want to put packages together for purchase, along with any optional add-ons. They also offer elopement packages. The app is not national just yet, as it is offered in only nine states.

What happened to Wedy Weddings on Shark Tank?

Little did the sharks know, Rumaiza and Anas Ali were ready to provide a presentation they would never forget. During their season 15 appearance on "Shark Tank," the pair not only introduced their app Wedy Wedding, they also introduced a couple that used the app to plan their own nuptials. The bride and groom were actually about to have their wedding on "Shark Tank," making it the first marriage for the show. And of course, being the amazingly overqualified person he is, Kevin O'Leary is ordained to officiate weddings and was kind enough to marry the couple on the competition show.

Rumaiza and Anas would ask for $300,000 for 5% equity in the company. During their pitch, the couple said they make 24% of every package sold on the app and have made $1.5 million since starting their business with 2022 seeing a huge jump in sales making $510,000 in revenue.

Ultimately, the sharks decided not to make a deal to invest in the wedding app. And though O'Leary said he was impressed by the couple's presentation, he was already in the wedding space with another "Shark Tank" company called Honey Fund, which is a platform to help engaged couples plan their honeymoon.

Though Rumaiza and Anas Ali did not make a deal, that did not stop them from pushing forward. According to Forbes, following their appearance on "Shark Tank," they had a waitlist of 2,800 vendors that wanted to offer services through Wedy Wedding. They also received requests to expand their service area to include New York, Orlando, Chicago and more, but there is not word on if and when they decide to take the app nationwide. The couple did express a desire to expand their offerings to include honeymoons and entering the baby sector.

Wedy's Instagram has over 25K followers and posts wedding inspiration, along with photos from various weddings and a link to the vendors that provided their services, including venues, photographers, catering, and more. They also share the cost of various wedding packages for transparency. On her personal Instagram, Rumaiza shares photos of her travels around the world, as well as from her speaking engagements.
