All The Trendiest Chrome Nail Variations - For A Magical Metallic Manicure

As we know, chrome nails are officially back in a big way. The glamorous, shiny metallic nail look has been all over the place in 2023 — and we certainly just can't get enough. After having a bit of a moment around 2017 and 2018, nail artist Antajah Moran told Glamour that the fun manicure idea made its way back into our regular rotation thanks in part to the big Y2K resurgence we've been seeing a whole lot of in the fashion world.

But did you know that there isn't just one way to do chrome nails? Yep, it's true. It turns out there are multiple variations of the magnificent metallic method, and it seems the modern renaissance has brought more ways than ever to rock the trend. "This time around, nail art lovers are trying different base colors and chrome-powder combos to create new variations of it," celebrity manicurist and educator Mimi D admitted to InStyle of how thingshave changed since the first time the trend came around.

But exactly what are some other variations of chrome nails? Well, sit back, grab your nail file, and prepare to be inspired as we show you 10 of our favourites.

Ooh la la! Feelin' French?

If you're not here for anything too crazy or bold on your nails (or you just love yourself a classic French manicure) then French chrome could be for you. This version is exactly what the name suggests; a French manicure with a shiny chrome polish finish. A neutral look like this is a great way to get in on the chrome trend without stepping too much outside your comfort zone. It's also ideal if you're set for a busy few weeks of events because a look like this will pretty much go with any and all outfits in your wardrobe.

Or you could take a look in the mirror with your manicure

This reflective version is probably a little closer to what you imagine when you thing of traditional chrome, right? Some versions of the chrome technique don't quite bring as much shine to your manicure, so opting for mirror design is a great way to draw attention and make a big statement with your nails. Don't think you have to stick to silver, though! A mirror chrome manicure can come in a range of colors and shades, so there are countless options to try out.

Pearlize your chrome

Another simple look, pearl chrome has to be one of the most sophisticated variations of the chrome trend. The white sheen looks similar to the body of a pearl, so it's a fun alternative to get in on the pearl nail trend too without actually having to put any little white balls on your nails. We know, that's not everyone's thing. Not to mention the practicality of a manicure like this, as it's another chrome variation that will go with so many different outfit choices.

Why not fade out your chrome?

Another way to do the chrome trend with a twist is to try out the fade chrome look, also known as the chrome fade. This idea involves adding a chrome polish to the tips of the nail and then fading it out into another shade. We adore the way the holographic silver chrome transcends into a neutral shade towards the nail bed, letting the glamorous ends do all the talking.

Matte chrome is a thing, too

We know, we know. Matte chrome sounds like a bit of an oxymoron, but, clearly, it works. A matte chrome manicure gives the traditional chrome look a major twist, as it's much less shiny than the classic look but still has its own unique glow. This look is ideal for anyone who wants to give the trend a go, but maybe isn't into the idea of having super shiny talons.

And ombre chrome is super hot as well

We can't lie, ombre chrome has to be one of our very favorite versions of the manicure. As you can see, this nail technique involves blending two or more colors to create a unique mix of shades. This particular version also gives off almost a wet look because it's so glossy, and we love how the pink entwines with the gold for a glamorous Barbiecore inspired look.

Trying something different using 3D chrome might be the one for you

Like your nails to be a little bolder and out there? Then do we have the idea for you... 3D chrome! Yep, with this look, your manicure will seriously stand out (pretty much literally). This version of the chrome trend involves raising the chrome section of the manicure on the nail to create a, you guessed it, 3D effect. The design you opt for could be anything at all, too. From stars, to flowers, to random swirls — it's time to get creative.

You could also mix chrome and glitter

Simple chrome just not doing it for you? Then just wait for this variation. Chrome AND glitter. Yep, you read it right. You can actually mix chrome with glitter to make one of the most stunning manicure mixes ever (in our opinion). As this look proves, you don't even have to stick to one, two, or even three colors. In fact, for some people, it may be a case of the more colors the better!

Or, if you're not feeling it, you could only use chrome for your nail art

If you prefer to keep your nails a little more understated and aren't the biggest fan of the idea of chrome all over, then try this part-chrome technique. Instead of the whole manicure using the method, isolate it to your nail art with a matte or more simple shade underneath. You can really customize this idea too, using only shapes and colors you love.

Aura nails can add a little something extra to your chrome look too

Combining trends is one of the most fun ways to change up the traditional chrome manicure trend, and this idea really proves that. This modification uses the chrome nail movement and mixes it with the aura nails we've also seen a lot of. If you're unfamiliar with the latter, it involves having a different color in the center of the nail that fades out. The two together makes something super colorful and oh so glamorous that we just adore.
