10 Fall 2023 Boot Trends You'll Want To Strut In

The weather's changing — and so is our footwear. The period between when the summer sun shines and the autumn leaves drop is the time most of us dig into the back of our wardrobe to find the boots we've neglected all season — and this year will be no different. So let's all say a sad sayonara to sandals and a happy hello to higher, sturdier footwear and closed-toed styles.

It's always great (and eco-conscious) to have a staple pair of boots that work for you year after year. Seriously, we love a good pair of long-lasting footwear. But at the same time, there's always room to upgrade. So if you're in the market for a new pair of boots — made for walking you into the last few months of the year — we've got you covered. Here's what's going to be hot in the boot world as the weather starts to turn colder, with styles for every occasion.

Sock boots are back (yay!)

We can't lie, we love to see the return of sock boots for fall 2023. That's because this footwear is incredibly versatile and can be a classy-yet-simple way to dress up any outfit. Sock boots go great with black tights and a dress or skirt — just as they do with a pair of black pants, jeans, or even leggings. If you're rocking them with long bottoms, we'd recommend going super skinny and tucking your pants into the boots (if they're streamlined enough to do that, of course). You could also get your hands on a long pair of boots (some stretch as far as the thigh) with bare legs for those warmer fall days.

Foldover boots are going to be super chic for fall

If you have any interest in fashion, you've probably seen foldover boots all over the place this year already. And now that we're getting back into boot-wearing season, you should probably expect to see even more of them. In case you're unfamiliar, the popular foldover boot kinda looks like you're wearing pants over the top, as they feature an extra layer of fabric that wraps around the calf and ends around the ankle.

It's time to dig out your wedge boots

Ready to wear some super comfy boots? Then wedge boots are for you. Not only does this kind of heel make wearing these boots easy on your feet, but we also know it'll have you looking super stylish as we leave summer behind. Wedges have been all over the runways this year after they first popped up during the spring/summer season. Clearly, though, they haven't disappeared, as the world's top designers are carrying them into their autumn/winter 2023 lines.

Your slouchies are on their way back too

If you're a fan of an undone look and don't want something too structured (and sometimes hard to walk in), then slouchy boots are the way to go. Knee or over-the-knee boots in this style are set to heat up this fall as we leave the summer heat behind. The best part? They're easier to style than you might think. Of course, you can pair them with some tucked-in skinny jeans, but tall boots also look super stylish with a shorter dress or skirt and just a flash of skin.

Pearls are fall's coolest boot accessory

We already know that pearl-adorned nails have been super popular in 2023, but it seems they're moving further south for fall. Yep, the timeless and classy accessory is seasonally on-trend on your boots this year, with accessorized versions of the footwear popping up all over. To really show off the embellishments, we'd recommend getting your hands on a black pair like these, to create a juxtaposition between the timeless glamour of pearls and the grunginess of chunky boots.

Or you could try studs instead

Not a fan of pearls? Try out some studs instead. These grungy embellishments are also set to be in for fall 2023, adding a little extra something and bringing some fun to your cold-weather footwear. How much you want to dip into the stud trend is totally up to you, though. If you're looking for just a little something extra, keep the studs to a minimum. But if you really want to play it up, then opt for studs all over your shoes. Hey, why not?

Giddy up, cowgirl!

There's no fighting it. Cowboy boots came back over the summer of 2023, and it's pretty clear they're now here to stay. According to Verge, Taylor Swift's hugely popular "Eras Tour" and Beyoncé's equally sought-after "Renaissance Tour" contributed to a whopping 67% increase in online searches for cowboy boots over the summer. And now we're transitioning them into autumn. Of course, how you wear yours is totally up to you. If you're keeping things traditional, classic brown may be a good choice. But if you want to change it up a little, why not go for a bold and bright color to match the falling leaves?

But get to the point

Another big trend we're anticipating for fall 2023 is pointed boots. Pointed-toe shoes have been having a bit of a moment this year, and it doesn't seem like that will change in the latter months of the year. This structured style of shoe has been seen all over the fashion runways in 2023 already, with the likes of Jimmy Choo, Prada, and Yves Saint Laurent all dressing models in V-shaped footwear. Pointed heels are also the perfect shoes to wear with trendy flared jeans.

Pull your boots up, because over the knee is in

Obviously, there are a few new boot trends coming our way in fall 2023. But there's really only one length that seems to be towering above the others. The overwhelmingly popular style people will be wearing into autumn? Over-the-knee boots. If you're torn on how long to go with your footwear as the season changes, we'd say the higher the better. These are also perfect seeing as fall/winter fashion in 2023 is expected to be more about flat shoes than towering heels.

Metallic boots are bringing some light to dark nights

Fall means dark nights are starting to roll in, and that means you'll need to bring a little extra fun and light into your days. One of the best ways to do that? Metallic boots. We've seen plenty of this style of footwear already this year, but it's showing no signs of leaving our feet anytime soon. This is another style we've seen our favorite stars rocking recently, as Beyoncé wore them on her massive "Renaissance tour" – which most certainly caught our eye. Now, go forth in your new boots and strut!
