A Waxing Moon Is Your Sign To Kick Those Goals Into High Gear

Each month, the moon goes through a total of eight phases, beginning with the new moon. Astrologers have long placed emphasis on moon phases, as they signify critical spiritual moments of new beginnings and endings. But the moon spends much more of its time reaching its stages than in the stages themselves through the processes of waxing and waning.

A waning moon is one that, after reaching the full moon phase, then becomes gradually covered in darkness until it reaches the new moon phase. From there, the moon enters its waxing phase, where it begins to regain light. While the waning moon is associated with inward reflection, the waxing moon is associated with external striving — meaning that a waxing moon is the perfect time to kick your goals into high gear. Astrologer Corina Crysler tells Well+Good, "Our energy builds during this moon phase for us to achieve our goals by creating action around our intentions." Where the moon goes through a period of waxing for about 14 days as it traverses the waxing crescent, first quarter, and waxing gibbous phases, you have about half of the month to harness the moon's waxing energy and plunge into your goals, should you allow the moon to be your guide. Here's how to do it.

The waxing crescent phase

First, check your natal chart to see what sign your moon is in and in what house, where its themes might be heightened by the moon's phases. Signs that often feel compelled to action, such as the fire signs of Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius, might revel in the newfound energy of the waxing moon, for example. While the moon is still in its beginning waxing phase, known as the waxing crescent phase, kickstart the goals you set during the new moon.

While it can be intimidating to set forth on a new endeavor, whether it relates to work, your personal life, or any other goal you might have for yourself, take a lesson from the light of the moon. Remember that you are not completely in the dark; you have the light of the moon, your intentions, and your plans to guide you. Just like the moon's phases, goals take time to reach. Trust that as long as you are making steady progress, your goals will eventually — and inevitably — reach fruition.

The waxing gibbous phase

The waxing gibbous phase could be considered a slightly more demanding moment when it comes to reaching your goals alongside the moon. But the good news is, here is where you might have the most energy to give to your endeavors. During the waxing gibbous moon phase, you may need to make some decisions based on what has been working for you — or not — when the moon was in its waxing crescent phase. This phase is also the last phase of the moon before it reaches the full moon stage, meaning it is the point at which your projects are reaching completion.

While the waxing gibbous phase is not the time to give up, remember not to work too hard compromising your needs for the sake of reaching a goal on a certain timeline. Just like the moon, the fruits of your labor will naturally unfold. Should you struggle with finishing projects or committing to a goal, this is the time to dig deep into your inner strengths, to remind yourself, perhaps with daily affirmations, that you are capable. Soon enough, the full moon will arrive, and you can properly celebrate.
