Teen Is Rejected From Homecoming Dance. But When A Stranger Shows Up...
Fairytales aren't just for the story books!
Just as a boy who'd been rejected over and over again was about to give up, the impossible happened.
This is how he learned that sometimes, without a shred of magic, fairytales do come true.
Just like every other 17-year-old boy, it was Daniel's dream to go to his school's homecoming dance. Unlike every other kid his age, though, that goal seemed out of reach for Daniel.
Due to his Down Syndrome, Daniel has been stigmatized by his peers, and was turned down by every girl he had asked.
But then Kylie, a 10th-grader, turned the tables around and asked Daniel if he'd like to go with her to the dance.
Tonya, Daniel's mom, was touched by Kylie's proposal. "It's not about that Daniel has a disability," she said. "It's Kylie didn't see any disability. That is what your heart wants as a mom."
FOX5's Surprise Squad was so impressed with Kylie's kindness that they showed up just before the dance, bearing surprises that were sure to make it a homecoming to remember.
Daniel and Kylie were given a red-carpet entrance after being driven to the dance in a Rolls Royce. $10,000 was given to Daniel to go toward his education, and both families were being sent to Disneyland! The night was better than either were hoping for, and even had them in tears of happiness by the end of it.
None of it could have happened without Kylie's open-minded and accepting attitude. "I don't think of kids that have a disability… I don't think of them as being different," she said. "I hope I can make his night fun."
