The biggest historical events in history include The American Revolution, the building & tearing down of the Berlin Wall, and the birth of Jesus Christ. Abraham Lincoln was one of the most amazing presidents we ever had and he was take away before his time by someone who disagreed with his views. He spoke about history when he said, "Fellow citizens, we cannot escape history. We, of this Congress and this administration, will be remembered in spite of ourselves. No personal significance, or insignificance, can spare one or another of us. The fiery trial through which we pass will light us down in honor or dishonor, to the latest generation." It is so interesting to see that he spoke about history while he was still alive and has still made such a huge impact on history since passing away. John Henrik Clarke is a well-known American author who has written some very profound and insightful tidbits. He spoke about history when he said, "History is not everything, but it is a starting point. History is a clock that people use to tell their political and cultural time of day. It is a compass they use to find themselves on the map of human geography. It tells them where they are but, more importantly, what they must be." He is right that history isn't everything but that it is a great starting point. We must start somewhere when it comes to reflecting on the past and learning about how to better prepare ourselves for a brighter and more promising future.
