When is Hanukkah 2017?

Well it starts today, silly! Hanukkah begins on the evening of December 12th and ends on the evening of Wednesday, December 20th.

What Is Hanukkah?

According to chabad.org, "Chanukah is the Jewish eight-day, wintertime “festival of lights,” celebrated with a nightly menorah lighting, special prayers and fried foods".

The story commemorates, "the victory of the Maccabees over the Syrian Greek army, and the subsequent miracle of rededicating the Holy Temple in Jerusalem and restoring its menorah, or lamp".

The miracle of Hanukkah is that only one vial of oil was found with just enough oil to illuminate the Temple lamp for one day, and yet it lasted for eight full days thus resulting in an eight day celebration.

How Is Hanukkah Celebrated?

Hanukkah is celebrated by lighting the menorah each night for eight nights. Some families exchange gifts while others eat latkes and play dreidels.

Happy Hanukkah!!!!
