Another One Bites The Dust: Adios Matt Lauer
Goodnight & Good Luck Matty...
Matt Lauer, cohost of The Today Show, has been fired this morning for "inappropriate sexual behavior in the workplace".
Matt Lauer has been fired from the Today Show, NBC reports. Lauer has been a co-host on the show for 20 years.
Lauer's co-host, and friend, Savannah Guthrie broke the news to viewers at the start of the show. In Lauer's seat sat Hoda Kotb. Guthrie expressed her confusion and remorse, "I am heartbroken for Matt. As I'm sure you can imagine, we are devastated and we are still processing all of this. We will be covering this story as reporters, as journalists. I'm sure we will be learning more details in the hours and days to come. And we promise we will share that with you". Guthrie and her coworkers don't know the details of the allegations against Lauer.
NBC News chairman Andrew Lack released a memo to employees Wednesday morning,
"On Monday night, we received a detailed complaint from a colleague about inappropriate sexual behavior in the workplace by Matt Lauer. It represent, after serious review, a clear violation of our company's standards. While it is the first complaint about his behavior in the over 20 years he's been at NBC News, we were also presented with reason to believe this may not have been an isolated incident".
An incident that may have been the catalyst to his demise was a complaint made by a colleague who claims he sexually assaulted her at the 2014 Winer Olympics in Sochi. Lauer joins the ranks of Fox's Bill O'Reilly and CBS's Charlie Rose, both of whom have been fired from major networks due to sexual assault allegations. Glass Houses, Mr. President
Donald Trump, a man who faces sexual misconduct allegations from at least 16 women took to Twitter regarding Matt Lauer's departure;
Wow, Matt Lauer was just fired from NBC for "inappropriate sexual behavior in the workplace." But when will the top executives at NBC & Comcast be fired for putting out so much Fake News. Check out Andy Lack's past!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) November 29, 2017
Additionally, there have been rumblings related to the termination of Matt Zimmerman, a former talent booking executive, earlier this month.
A unidentified source reported to People Magazine, "Lauer's firing is very closely tied to Matt Zimmerman's firing; to understand what has happened to Matt Lauer you need to understand what happened to Matt Zimmerman. Zimmerman had an affair that was consensual—albeit the question of consent is a tricky one when you're dealing with somebody who is your superior. When the affair ended, the woman with whom he had been having the affair felt manipulated, misled, and used, and ultimately complained to superiors that she now felt she was in a hostile work environment and that she had been taken advantage of. And again, that's where the question of ‘how much consent can you really give if someone has significant seniority over you?' comes into play. At any rate, NBC decided that, basically, ANY affair is grounds for firing because it's improper workplace conduct."
