The Best Low Histamine Alcohol
When it comes to the best low histamine alcoholic drinks they're going to typically use gin and vodka. Most other low histamine alcohol is a no-no for someone on a low amine diet.
Low Amine Mojito:
Summer drinks aren’t the same without fun choices like beer, cider, tequila, rum, scotch (my favorite), and whiskey. As someone allergic to amines, I am left with gin and vodka.
Needless to say, I now drink a lot of vodka. I’m working on tweaking some summer classic drinks and making them into delicious low amine alcoholic beverages.
Round 1: Mojitos. Drink!
2 oz vodka
10-12 mint leaves
1 Tbsp brown sugar
Juice of 1/2 lime
5 oz club soda
1 C crushed ice if you have it, cubes if you don’t.
In the bottom of a cocktail shaker, grind mint leaves together with the brown sugar.
If using crushed ice: Add crushed ice, vodka, lime. Muddle.
If using cubed ice: Add vodka, lime. Muddle. Add ice, put lid on and shake.
Add club soda and pour through cocktail shaker’s strainer (or use a spring-bar strainer) into a tall glass.
Garnish with a mint leaf and wedge of lime.
Low Histamine Martinis

Low-Histamine Watermelon Martini
For Martini: *1 cup watermelon juice (see preparation instructions) *1/2 cup (4 oz.) premium Vodka * 1/4 cup simple syrup (see preparation instructions) * 3 tablespoons salt to rim the glass (optional) * 3 tablespoons sugar to rim the glass (optional) * ice * Watermelon slices for garnish
For Simple Syrup: * 1 cup granulated sugar * 1 cup of water
For Watermelon Juice: * 2 cups watermelon flesh cut into chunks
How to Make It Start by making your simple syrup and watermelon juice. Both can come in handy for other recipes, so you may want to make and store a bit more than is required for this recipe.
Make Your Own Simple Syrup: * Add 1 cup of granulated sugar and 1 cup of water into a small pan. Heat slowly over medium heat stirring until all the sugar has dissolved. Remove from heat and cool. Transfer to another container or bottle and cover.
- Can be stored at room temperature for up to 3 months.
Make Your Own Watermelon Juice: * Cut two cups of watermelon flesh off the rind. Place in blender and blend until liquified.
Assemble Your Martini:
- Mix together the sugar and salt if using. Wet the rim of a chilled martini glass with a piece of watermelon. Dip the rim into the sugar and salt mixture. Repeat for other glass
- Place the watermelon juice, vodka, lime juice, and simple syrup into a cocktail shaker. Top with ice. Shake well.
- Pour contents through strainer into chilled martini glasses.
- Garnish with a wedge of watermelon if desired.
