Everything You Need to Know Before Your First Reiki Experience
Reiki originated in Japan and is a healing technique that focuses on channeling energy from the person by touch. This form of therapy helps the person relieve any stress or pain, creating deep relaxation.
Reiki has become very popular in the past year and we completely understand why. If you have been thinking of having reiki healing or have made your first reiki appointment, here are a couple of things you need to know beforehand.
1. How Long Are Reiki Sessions?
Reiki sessions can range anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour, depending on what kind of reiki session you have booked. If this is your first time and you aren't sure, maybe try out one of the shorter sessions to see what kind of experience you have and if it works for you.
You can always extend or shorten your session time, but if you want to get the most out of it, try different times and see what works best for you.
2. What Are Things You Can Experience During a Reiki Session?
Reiki sessions will make you feel completely relaxed. Reiki is meant to relieve pain and tension in your body, while also relaxing the brain. Some people tend to fall asleep during a reiki session.
People have different experiences during their reiki sessions and can vary from a deep sleep, a meditative state, or others might not feel anything but relaxation.
3. Why Are You Having a Reiki Session?
It's important for you and the practitioner to know why you want to go into this reiki session. If there are any particular discomforts, pains, or if you are stressing about something, the reiki practitioner can focus on certain spots or give you a longer session.
It's also important to let your reiki practitioner know about your medical history and if there is anything they should look out for during the reiki session. You will be laying down for a while, so if there are any medical concerns, let the practitioner know so that you may have a comfortable and beneficial reiki session.
4. Preparation Is Important Before Your Reiki Session
Certain practitioners will ask you to refrain from consuming any caffeine and to limit any nicotine. Having a cleansed and relaxed body and mind going into a reiki session is important.
It's also recommended you have a good night's sleep before your session, as well as a healthy breakfast or meal before. Drink plenty of water the day of your reiki session and if you can, cleanse your aura.
There are a couple ways you can cleanse your aura, one being a mental aura cleanse—sitting in a quiet place for at least 15 minutes, while also incorporating breathing exercises.
5. Research Your Reiki instructor
To get the most out of your reiki session and to have the best outcome from your session, you should research your reiki instructor. Get references, look at reviews, and talk to different reiki practitioners to see which one is best for you.
This reiki experience is for you and you want to feel relaxed after this session, so it's important to know that the practitioner will do a good job. Don't be afraid to be selective of your reiki practitioner—you're entrusting that this person will help you feel better after the session.
