There will always be the latest trends in skincare but just because you see them everywhere it doesn’t mean that’s actually the best option for your skin. So make sure you know what works for you.
And maybe you never really thought about your skincare routine, but for many of us hitting our late 20s in a wake-up call. Your skin needs some tender love and care. When you’re younger, you can get away with falling asleep in your makeup, tweaking it in the morning, and going on your way. But at some point, it’s just not going to cut it. You’re going to need to start figuring out a way to make your skin healthy and happy for the long term.
So it’s time to start figuring out what works for you. Don’t buy into the fads and the trends— instead, just focus on finding a routine that works for your skin and for your life.
1. WEAR SUNCSCREEN
If I could make this every bullet point on the list, I would. Sunscreen is the most important part of any skin care routine. Don't skip it— even on cloudy days.
2. Exfoliate— But Not Harshly
Kick those plastic bubbles to the curb and exfoliate only as often as you need it— it may only be once a week. And keep it gentle, man.
3. Know Your Naturals
Sometimes, natural is better. Look for filler ingredients in your products and go for natural solutions when you can— like aloe and jojoba which make amazing moisturizers.
4. Get Your Beauty Sleep
It's a real thing. And it can help save your skin.
5. Massage Your Skin
When you wash your face don't scrub and when you put on moisturizer don't pat. Instead, think massage. It will improve circulation and leave your skin feeling amazing.
6. Smart Squeezing
Really, you shouldn't be squeezing every zit or blackhead— sorry! But if you are going to do it, use the right technique, or else you could mess up your skin for real.
7. Drink Water
It's more important than you think— for your skin and for everything else.
8. Cross-Train Your Skin
Some products work better in tandem so make sure that you know how your products work together.
9. Pick A Routine That Works For You
The truth is, if you buy every expensive product in the world, it's not going to make a damn difference if you don't use them. The most important part of caring for your skin is finding a routine or a product that you're going to actually use and follow— that's the only way you're going to see the benefits.
There are so many different products out there and lots of differing advice, so it’s easy to get overwhelmed. The best thing that you can do is to stick with the basics— make sure you’re using sunscreen, moisturizing when you need to, and finding products that actually fit in with your schedule, rather than being the trendiest thing on the market. Don’t follow the fads, follow what you need. Because the fads will keep on changing, but your skin knows what it needs. It’s a learning curve, but eventually you’ll find something that works for you.
