Love Korean face masks? It might be time to check out these Ko Skin Beauty Boxes!

Ko Skin Beauty Box Review: What to Know About This Korean Face Mask Subscription Box

I was sixteen when I fell in love. With Asian face masks, that is.

My mother just came back from a trip to Taiwan and she brought me a pack of sheet masks. I soon learned that they would always care for me when I was at my best and my worst. To this day, I feel no greater joy than the cold rush of essence touching my skin when I put on a mask.

So, you can imagine what a joy it's been to discover new sheet masks with the Ko Skin Beauty Boxes, a Korean face mask subscription box by Ko Skin Beauty, a company influenced by the positive effects of implementing Korean skincare.

What Are the Ko Skin Beauty Boxes?

Founded by Tida Pin, Ko Skin Beauty aims to bring the quality ingredients in Korean products to your skin with one thing in mind: You.

"I focus on the importance of taking care of the skin by introducing my favorite sheet masks to add to everyone's normal skincare regimen to help improve the skin over time," Pin told Women.com.

In fact, Pin's philosophy is exactly what makes their beauty subscription service different from other Korean mask boxes like FaceTory. The Ko Beauty Boxes are curated quarterly and subscribers can choose to receive boxes every 1, 2, or 3 months.

This basically means that if you choose to receive your boxes every 2 or 3 months, then you'll get a variation of the same box until the next quarter starts.

Here is the schedule that Ko Skin Beauty follows:

  • Winter Boxes: December - February
  • Spring Boxes: March - May
  • Summer Boxes: June - August
  • Fall Boxes: September - November

Subscribers get full control over how often they receive their subscription, as well as the time to see if their face masks are working without having to buy the masks individually.

And that in itself is something special.

What Boxes Are Available?

Ko Skin Beauty currently makes two types of face mask subscription boxes. Here's a breakdown of both:

Fresh Glow Box:

  • Price: $15/Box (Retail value: $18)
  • How Often? You'll receive the first box when you subscribe. Then you'll continue on with Ko Beauty's regular shipping schedule every 1, 2 or 3 months.
  • Shipping: Free with the subscription, but not for one-time purchase
  • What's in the box? Four curated masks that brighten, smooth, and hydrate your skin. A good introduction set to those new to Korean face masks.

Luminous Glow Box:

  • Price: $25/Box (Retail value: $39)
  • How Often? You'll receive the first box when you subscribe. Then you'll continue on with Ko Beauty's regular shipping schedule every 1, 2 or 3 months.
  • Shipping: Free with the subscription, but not for one-time purchase
  • What's in the box? Seven hand-picked masks that focus on soothing, brightening, anti-aging, and hydrating your skin.

If you want a more personalized box, you can also try the targeted skincare sets that target specific needs such as brightening, hydrating, anti-aging, and oily and acne prone skin. These sets also vary from month to month. However, they are not subscription-based and are only available for individual purchase.

But, don't you worry. We also asked Pin if there were any plans to customize the boxes according to a subscriber's skin type or preference and she said she was thinking about it. So, we're excited to see what the future holds.

I Tried the Fall 2018 Ko Skin Beauty Boxโ€”Here's What Happened

Now, let's get down to the actual Ko Skin Beauty Box review. I was sent the Fall 2018 Fresh Glow Box as well as the Luminous Glow Box. And to say I was excited would be an understatement.

Opening each box was like being a giddy kid in the candy store. The packaging was adorable and simple. But, there was one thing I wish the boxes had: an information sheet.

If you're anything like me (as in, if you're a total control freak), then you'll know how important it is for me to know exactly what I'm getting myself into. I would have loved to see an info sheet, giving details on the ingredients and benefits of each mask as well as how to use them.

But don't fret! You aren't left in the dark.

While you don't get an info sheet, you can always look at the Ko Skin Beauty's website to get all of this information. And in some cases, this option is better since you won't accidentally throw anything away.

Despite my nit-picky nature, each box was filled with a variety of great masks, including brands that I have never heard of and brands that everyone knows and loves.

Here is a breakdown of what came in each box as well as their benefits.

Fresh Glow Box Fall 2018

  • Pin's Favorite Pick: Candy O'Lady Honey Milk Candy Mask (Brightens and moisturizes)
  • Recipe Peach Jelly Bomb Mask (Illuminates and hydrates)
  • Faith in Face Missing Pore Hydrogel Mask (Eliminates large pores and excess sebum)
  • My Favorite Pick: Ultru I'm Sorry for My Skin Brightening Jelly Mask (Brightens and balances skin)

Luminous Glow Box Fall 2018

  • Neogen Oxygen AHA Bubble Peeling Mask (Removes dead skin cells for smooth and glowing skin)
  • My Favorite Pick: Hey, lo Calming White Mask (Soothes irritated skin and evens skin tone)
  • MD's Pick Lux Gold Water Rubber Mask (Revitalizes and soothes skin)
  • Eslena Extra Balancing Healing Mask (Softens and moisturizes)
  • Hankei Bio Collagen Natural Mask (Calms skin and improves the appearance of pores)
  • Pin's Favorite Pick: Meg Two-Step Jelly Mask (Two-step mask for exfoliation, hydration, and glowing skin)

I found both boxes to have some quality masks and even more brands to fall in love with. And if I choose to subscribe, then I could get the same box every month until November, depending on my preferences. I can also just go to the Ko Skin Beauty website and buy the masks individually.

However, if I had to choose between the two, I would subscribe to the Luminous Glow Box over the Fresh Glow Box. If I were just being introduced to face masking, then I might be a little less likely to subscribe, and if you wanted to purchase just once, then you would have to pay shipping.

There's also a difference in value when it comes to the two boxes. Sure, both come with great masks, but you get so many more interesting masks that also target a variety of skin issues for only $10 more that it seems worth it to you (and your skin) to try out the Luminous Glow Box.

Is It Worth It?

Trying the Ko Skin Beauty Boxes was a treat that I would love to try again.

While I wish that there was an information card and that you didn't have to pay for shipping if you want to try out the box one time before deciding to subscribe, I recommend it. If you want more freedom in terms of how often you get your box, as well as the opportunity to try the same masks again to really see if it works for your skin, then the Ko Skin Beauty Boxes might be just the box for you.

Plus, the bottom line is that these are great masks. And at the end of the day, that's all we're looking for.

Face Masking Tips From Ko Skin Beauty's Tida Pin

  • Most face masks come with a lot of essence, so instead of wasting the magic essence, I like to tell people to bottle up the extra essence in a container for use as part of their skincare routine replacing their regular essence for the next couple of days.

  • Another fun tip is storing your sheet masks in the fridge before use. This not only helps with depuffing your skin, but it also feels very cooling and refreshing on the skin!
