Grey's Anatomy Is Doing An 'Amelia-Centric' Episode–Here's What You Need to Know
Get ready for this beautiful mess.
Grey's Anatomy to Air an Episode About Amelia Shepherd
The second half of Grey's Anatomy season 15 is off to a strong start. From two epic love triangles to character development that goes beyond what we could have imagined, we know that the Grey's team has plenty of stories to share with fans for years to come.
Even ABC has invested in more Grey's Anatomy, as the network recently ordered 3 more episodes of the Shondaland series, making this one of the longest episodes in almost a decade. So what will the Grey's team do with all that extra time?
Well, it turns out that Grey's Anatomy executive producer, *Krista Vernoff, has some exciting news to share regarding a longtime Grey's family character.
As it turns out, Vernoff already knew that Grey's would get 24 episodes. So to her, it was the matter of making one extra episode, rather than three.
"I knew for a long time that we were making 24," Vernoff said. "We've been making 24 episodes a year for many years now. ABC asked about [doing one more] and I spent a week thinking about whether or not we could accomplish it. I [ultimately] said yes because I like to be a team player."
But with only one bonus episode, how did Vernoff settle down on a standalone episode featuring Amelia of all people?
"I had an extra standalone episode idea that I wanted to do this season. So it doesn't really lengthen our season too much," Vernoff said. "It allows us to tell [this Amelia-centric] story that we might not otherwise have gotten to tell this season."
Given Amelia's long history with the world of Grey's Anatomy, having been on the first spinoff series Private Practice before her entrance to the flagship series in season 7, we're curious and honestly a little scared to see what comes up in the standalone episode.
Scorsone seems to reflect our feelings.
"I've been doing the show for a long time," Scorsone said. "And just hearing what it's about fills me with nervous excitement."
However, Scorsone ensures fans that we're going to see a lot more than just Amelia at Grey Sloan.
"It's not just, ‘Let's follow Amelia to the neuro lab," Scorsone said. "It's definitely a little standalone. It's almost like a little movie on its own."
