As you can see, gratitude is far more than just wishful thinking but a powerful force in its own right. In our high-pressure world it can almost be a habit that feels scary to indulge in. Many of us have gotten so used to problems that need to be solved or the ever present worry that things could fall apart at any minute that it can almost feel a little threatening to step back and acknowledge that at least some parts of our lives are actually going really well.

So how do you get started in the practice of being more grateful? A gratitude journal is a great way to start and is in fact something you can you put together without a trip to the store. You can either make your own from an old notebook or even print one out here for free.

The appearance of your journal however, doesn’t matter so much as the joy you’ll find every day in taking a moment out of your busy schedule for no one else but yourself. Try to find a time each day that works for you to stop, turn off the demands of the world, think about all the good things that life has sent your way, and write down at least three each day. Don’t be surprised if this little investment in yourself pays off in a huge way as you begin to notice over time that you’ve got a lot more going for you than you think.
