Friends With Benefits: You're Getting Attached And It's Your Own Fault
It is possible to have fun without jeopardizing your friendship.
If you're thinking of moving out of the friend zone and having casual sex with no strings attached, it's important to know exactly what you're getting into. Here's how to have fun with your FWB and avoid any drama.
DON'T HOOK UP WITH YOUR CRUSH
Hooking up with someone you have actual feelings for is never a good idea. You will only end up pining for them, hoping it will move from FWB to an actual relationship.
BE HONEST IF YOU START FEELINGS
That being said, if you start having feelings for your FWB, honesty is the best policy. Best case scenario, they might secretly be feeling the same way. Worst case scenario, they don't feel the same way and you two part ways. If you end things amicably, you're more likely able to remain plutonic friends even though you're no longer hooking up.
It's always a good idea to use condoms, other forms of birth control, and get tested for STIs prior to engaging in a casual sexual relationship with someone.
KEEP YOUR FAMILY AT A DISTANCE
Even if you get along great with the guy and he seems cool enough to go as your plus-1 to your cousin's wedding, don't bring him. This could cause mixed signals about your intentions for the relationship and could even cause you to get attached without even realizing it.
DON'T GET JEALOUS
Unless you and your FWB have had a discussion about being sexually exclusive, don't get mad if they go out with someone else. You're not in a monogamous relationship so they don't owe you their faithfulness.
