The Real-Life Partners Of The Ladies From The Diplomat

Netflix has produced a number of smash hits over the years, and among them are its political thrillers. Following in the footsteps of shows like "House of Cards" and "Designated Survivor," "The Diplomat" came out swinging in 2023 and continues going strong with the release of Season 4 in October 2026. Aside from intense, high-stakes political maneuvers, the show has given fans an in-depth look at the torrid affairs of Keri Russell's Kate Wyler and the burgeoning romances of Ali Ahn's Eidra Park. But the real-life romances of the show's leading ladies are quite the opposite of their characters in the show. 

Keri Russell, for example, has been in a long-term relationship with her partner for nearly a decade. Ali Ahn is also in a sweet, loving romance with a former co-star (which is similar to the leading ladies of "Family Ties" and their real-life partners). On the other hand, Alison Janney (who plays President Grace Penn) isn't linked with anyone, while the relationship status of Nana Mensah (Billie Appiah) is unknown at the time of writing. 

Unlike Kate Wyler's tumultuous marriage with Rufus Sewell's Hal Wyler, Keri Russell has been in a happy and stable 10-year relationship with fellow actor Matthew Rhys. Although the pair first met back in 2002 at a party, nothing came of it. Russell went on to marry carpenter Shane Deary in 2007, but the marriage fell apart and the couple officially divorced in 2014. However, it's evident that Russell doesn't need our best tips for getting back into dating after a divorce, as Rhys returned to her life when they worked together on hit show "The Americans" in 2012.

This time, sparks flew between the pair, and they started dating in 2014. And Russell wasn't shy about showing how deeply in love and affectionate they were with one another. "I was in love with Matthew. We were, like, hot and heavy in love, shooting the spy stuff at night in disguises and wigs. I mean, it was such a fun, sexy time," Russell exclusively shared with Variety. And the happiness continued for the couple as they were joined by their son, Sam, in 2016, as well as starring in other projects like 2023's "Cocaine Bear" together. 

Just like Keri Russell, Ali Ahn found love with her co-star, William Jackson Harper. They initially met  in passing while starring in theater productions in New York, being romantically linked to other people at the time. However, it was when they starred together in the 2012 project, "Romeo and Juliet," that they realized how drawn they were to each other. Of course, both Ahn and Harper had broken up with their previous partners and were soon dating. 

"It just spiraled up into the sky from there," Harper, who starred in the hit show "The Good Place," exclusively shared in a 2021 Los Angeles Times interview. Years later, the couple are clearly still as loved up and supportive of each other as ever. Harper showed up alongside Ahn for the 2024 premiere of "The Diplomat" and accompanied her to the October 2026 Season 4 premiere of the show.
