Family Ties' Leading Ladies & Their Real-Life Partners

The hugely popular '80s sitcom "Family Ties" made no qualms of delving into its character's romantic lives. From Michael J. Fox's character Alex P. Keaton and his romances with the likes of Tracy Pollan's Ellen Reed and Courteney Cox's Lauren Miller, to Justine Bateman's boy crazy character Mallory Keaton's relationship with Nick Moore, love was never hard to find on the show. But what's going on with the real-life love lives of the series' biggest female stars?

Well, the leading ladies of "Family Ties"' have some adorable family ties of their own, as the cast has enjoyed an abundance of love away from the set (much like the leading ladies of TV's best sitcoms and their real-life partners). Meredith Baxter, Justine Bateman, and Tina Yothers Kaiser all have decades of happy marriage under their belts. And, in Pollan's and co-star Fox's case, they have that plus an inspiring romance that transitioned from on-screen to off.

Meredith Baxter has enjoyed more than two decades of wedded bliss with Nancy Locke

Meredith Baxter played mom Elyse Donnelly Keaton on "Family Ties" and is happily married to her wife, general contractor Nancy Locke. Baxter officially come out well into her career during an appearance on SiriusXM in 2009, four years after she met Locke through a mutual friend. They initially spoke over the phone, and Locke had no idea she was talking to a famous celebrity. Things moved fast for the loved-up couple after that and they moved in together in 2005. During an appearance on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" in 2009, Baxter sweetly called their romance "the healthiest relationship I have ever had" (via ABC News).

They tied the knot in 2013, making Baxter a celeb who found her happy ever after later in life (she was 66 at the time). "I'm so grateful you didn't show up in my life until I was able to be as open and honest as you are," the actor told Locke during their smaller wedding ceremony (via People). Speaking to People after tying the knot, Baxter gushed, "Now I understand why marriage caught on!"

Prior to finding love with Locke, Baxter had been married three times. She was was first wed to Robert Lewis Bush from 1966 to 1969, David Birney from 1974 until 1989, and Michael Blodgett between 1995 and 2000. She welcomed five children during her earlier marriages.

Justine Bateman's husband Mark Fluent helped her become more of an extrovert

"Family Ties" daughter Mallory Keaton was portrayed by Justine Bateman. While Mallory loved boys almost as much as shopping, Bateman (sister to fellow actor Jason Bateman) is happily settled down. The "Modern Family" and "Desperate Housewives" actor became Mrs Fluent in 2001 when she tied the knot with Mark Fluent, who she'd known since high school. At the time of writing, Fluent works as vice chairman for the real estate company CBRE. In 2002, Bateman and Fluent became parents to a son named Duke. Two years later, they were blessed again. This time, they became parents to a daughter named Gianetta.

Bateman has mainly kept her family life out of the spotlight, but gave the world an insight into her relationship with her husband during a 2004 interview with Pittsburgh Post Gazette. "He's very social, so he has a lot of friends. I was very accustomed to going to a party and after five minutes, if I'm done, I want to leave. But he doesn't want to leave," she said, revealing Fluent had helped her become less introverted.

Tina Yothers Kaiser is still loved up with Robert Kaiser after decades of marriage

Tina Yothers Kaiser (aka "Family Ties"' second daughter Jennifer Keaton) announced her engagement to Robert Kaiser, a Las Vegas club owner, in 2002 following a proposal over the holidays. The two married in 2003 and, three years later, Yothers Kaiser gave birth to their daughter, Lilly. In 2005, they became parents again when they welcomed a son, Jake. Yothers Kaiser is also a stepmom to Kaiser's two children from a previous relationship.

The actor hasn't shied away from sharing glimpses at her family life on social media, which includes letting the world know she's still totally loved up with her husband. Yothers Kaiser celebrated her man on Father's Day 2026, sharing an Instagram photo of him on a boat with the caption, "Cheers to the Man that made me a Mother!" The year before that, she celebrated their wedding anniversary on Instagram alongside a slideshow of photos showing their decades together. "Happy 22nd anniversary to my best friend, been blessed with the best partner! So grateful to walk hand-in-hand with you through life! Cheers to many more," she wrote.

Tracy Pollan found love with Michael J. Fox after meeting on Family Ties

Tracy Pollan enjoyed a recurring stint on "Family Ties" during Season 4 as Ellen Reed — which is where she met her then future husband, Michael J. Fox. Though their characters dated on the show, the actors didn't spark up a romance until around 1987. Things moved pretty quickly for the loved-up couple after that though. By 1988, they were married, and they welcomed their first child, a son named Sam Michael Fox. In 1995, they became parents twice more when Pollan gave birth to twin Aquinnah Kathleen Fox and Schuyler Frances Fox. But they weren't done there. In 2001, they welcomed another daughter named Esmé Annabelle Fox.

In 2022, the happy couple (who haven't been afraid to open up about their love in interviews and across social media) shared one of the secrets to their decades long romance. "It's assuming the best from the person you live with until you are actually presented with the worst," Pollan told People. That mantra clearly works for these two, as they were still totally in love in 2026. Fox celebrated his longtime love with a sweet Valentine's Day post, writing, "Life with you is a beach — be my Valentine still and always. Love you!" Pollan then shared her ongoing love for her fellow actor for Father's Day. She posted a series of family photos on Instagram with the caption, "Happy Father's Day! Our kids are so lucky to have the most loving, caring, and hysterical dad. We all love you!"
