Forget The Ponytail: Ariana Grande's Fairy Bob Perfectly Flatters Her Face Shape

For years, pop star Ariana Grande's signature hairstyle has been a dramatic high ponytail. And during the actor's "Glinda era" while filming and promoting "Wicked," fans were used to seeing her in long, blond locks.  But in October 2026, she took to Instagram to unveil a major hair transformation. The new hairstyle is a flicked-out bob that perfectly flatters her face shape and delicate features. "The bob haircut was MADE for her," wrote one X user of the chin-length style.

There are different best short haircuts for every face shape. The bob is an extremely versatile cut, but making little tweaks to the style based on your features can make this style truly sing, as it does on the "thank u, next" singer. Grande has a heart-shaped face, which means she's best suited to a style that balances it. "A shorter bob with volume at the sides helps balance the proportions," hairstylist Delphine Courteille told Paris Vogue. The flippy ends of this '60s style do just that.

The flippy bob is making a major comeback

Plenty of celebrities are chopping off their locks and embracing an on-trend bob these days. Now Grande joins Zendaya, Gigi Hadid, and other celebrities who have rocked the flippy bob trend. In fact, this style is shaping up to be one of the season's biggest hair trends. "The flicked bob is such a great, polished autumn and winter haircut," hairstylist Frankie Pullen told British Vogue. "We've seen clients wanting to move away from softer, shaggier summer styles, and now, they're after a more polished finish ahead of the colder season."

This hairstyle feels whimsical and feminine, and it's also surprisingly versatile. It's a perfect, polished alternative to the outdated bob haircut you should avoid in 2027. "It's a little retro, a little cheeky and so easy to dress up," hairstylist Clayton Hawkins told Coveteur. Even better, it's an easy cut to request at the salon. "You'll want to ask your hairdresser for just a normal, chin-to-shoulder length bob with some soft layers, as this style is more about the styling stage than the actual cut," hairstylist Adam Reed told Stylist.
