The Outdated Bob Haircut You Should Avoid In 2027, According To Our Stylist

Heading in to 2027, hair trends are all about soft styles with a sense of movement. As a result, there's one cut that feels particularly outdated. "I have been seeing fewer of those really severe A-line bobs with a dramatic angle from back to front," Jem Tyler, a hair stylist at the Marie Robinson Salon, exclusively tells Women.com.

The sharply structured A-line bob emerged during the '60s and made a major comeback during the 2000s, when it was popular with a range of celebrities. Victoria Beckham, in particular, helped popularize this bold style. Yet not all versions of the A-line bob are as severe as Beckham's. However, at any length, the sleekness and blunt ends feel out of step with current hair trends. Instead, modern styles have one major thing in common: a sense of ease. "I think we're moving away from such rigid, structured shapes and leaning toward cuts that feel a little softer, more effortless, and playful," says Tyler.

The A-line bob has been replaced by a softly layered short cut

Instead of super structured bobs, the hottest haircut trends for fall 2026 are those with texture and movement. The most popular short styles incorporate layers to make them softer and more versatile, like Taylor Swift's post-wedding crop that looks incredible worn curly or straight. "Even clients who prefer a more structured bob are having fun wearing it a little tousled and undone," hair stylist Jem Tyler tells Women.com exclusively. "It's a nice balance of classic shapes with a more playful feel. This can even come from a simple adjustment of adding bangs and face frame."

An added bonus, these relaxed styles look polished without a lot of complicated styling. "There's an inherent softness to a layered bob, a natural movement that keeps it feminine and modern," hairstylist Abigail Constanza told Harper's Bazaar. "Even with minimal styling, it allows the woman wearing it to look styled; effortlessly chic without trying too hard." The added movement also means this is a haircut that can pump up the volume on thin tresses.
