4 Celebs Proving You Don't Need A Six-Figure Engagement Ring To Say 'I Do'

When it comes to celebrities and wedding bells, it's not uncommon to hear about the hefty price tag that comes with choosing an engagement ring. In fact, the priciest engagement rings in modern Hollywood history have ranged from the thousands to the millions, with large gems to match. While celebrities can certainly afford shelling out that much money for a ring, that doesn't mean all of them do so.

In fact, certain celebs have gone against the grain and chosen relatively inexpensive engagement rings instead. While some of these could certainly be considered cheap compared to the celeb's net worth, they show that a six-figure engagement ring isn't necessary to tell your partner you wish to spend the rest of your life with them. From Julia Stiles to Anna Paquin, these celebs prove that selecting an affordable engagement ring is nothing to be ashamed of. And with their marriages actually lasting until the time of writing, there seems to be a ring of truth to it.

Anna Paquin's ring is unique and allegedly costs $100

Anna Paquin proved she doesn't require a large, eye-popping rock for an engagement ring when she was proposed to in 2009 by fellow "True Blood" star, Stephen Moyer. And rather than opting for a traditional diamond ring, Paquin happily agreed to marry Moyer when he offered a moonstone ring instead. The spherical moonstone is set in a unique geometrical band which certainly makes it one of the most out-of-the-box Hollywood engagement rings out there. And the cost? An estimated $100.

In fact, moonstones are quite inexpensive, with a 2009 Glamour article noting that a 3.7 carat moonstone only cost around $7. Although you might be shocked by how affordable it is, the notion that moonstones represent love, peace, and good fortune should tell you how deeply Moyer felt for Paquin. Its touching meaning only highlights how truly priceless the ring is, far beyond anything a six-figure engagement ring could offer.

Emma Stone's ring is less than $5,000

Similar to Anna Paquin, Emma Stone's engagement ring from now-husband Dave McCary didn't come with the standard diamond. In fact, McCary got down on one knee and proposed to the "La La Land" star in 2020 with a gorgeous ring with an 8 mm pearl at the center, surrounded by a bouquet of diamonds. The light gold band is also adorned with five tiny diamonds on each side. Crafted by Japanese jewelry designer Kataoka, the ring is sold on Catbird as 'Pearl Snowflake Ring Supreme' for an estimated $4,780 in 2020 (at the time of writing, the ring is now sold at $6,000 on the website).

Despite the unorthodox choice, the ring's one-of-a-kind design is what sets it apart from other celebrity engagement rings. Moreover, the vintage vibes it's exuding look straight out of a fairytale. "Emma's beautiful engagement ring is on trend with what we're expecting in 2020. The vintage setting has a sunken floral designed halo with pave accents," Katie Zimmerman, former Chief Merchandising Officer of jewelry giant Blue Nile, exclusively shared with Harper's Bazaar. Emma Stone's ring proves you don't need an extensive budget to purchase a truly eye-catching engagement ring.

Priscilla Chan didn't mind her modest sparkler

As someone married to billionaire Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, you would think he'd fork out an unimaginable amount of money when he married Priscilla Chan in 2012. Although he took the initiative and gave his input to the engagement ring's design, the result was a surprisingly modest ruby ring. But Chan didn't seem to care that it wasn't the largest diamond in existence, or that it reportedly cost around $25,000.

And while $25,000 is certainly astronomical to us, for the ultra-wealthy Zuckerberg, it's a mere drop in the bucket. But the ring is undoubtedly elegant and beautiful, and proposing with a ruby engagement ring is chock full of romantic symbolism that entails devoted love and unending passion. It seems that for the couple, what matters isn't how many zeroes were involved, but the depth of their love for each other, which is why they're one of the celeb marriages that we think will stand the test of time.

Julia Stiles' ring was all about elegance and simplicity

While it seems celebs are outdoing themselves with increasingly expensive engagement rings, Julia Stiles is content with something small and simple. When she got engaged to now-husband Preston J. Cook in late 2015, the "Jason Bourne" star uploaded an image of the stunning ring to her Instagram account. Stiles was more than pleased with her solitaire ring featuring a single circular diamond at the center and a rose gold band, as she wrote in the caption, "Best Christmas Ever!"

And the price of the ring is certainly on the lower end for celebrity engagement rings, hardly reaching a six-figure price tag. "Ring is very modern and simple. This style completely focuses on the stone. It has very clean look and is very minimalistic. Very refreshing for her to sport such a low-key ring," professional jeweler Shari Fabrikant exclusively shared with Hollywood Life. "If the stone is a F color VS2, the ring would run app. $35,000." It's certainly the thought that counts for Cook when he purchased this ring, and it's a fabulous selection. And with the couple celebrating their ninth wedding anniversary in 2026, it's safe to say an eye-wateringly expensive ring was never needed.
