The Best Fall Manicure Colors For Pale Skin Tones
It might seem simple enough to select the manicure shade you want. And when it comes to the fall season, you may consider these end-of-fall manicure colors that will seamlessly transition into winter when you book an appointment with the nail salon. However, factoring our skin tone into the equation isn't usually at the forefront of anyone's mind when selecting your fall manicure shade. But if you have pale skin and want your nails to pop this fall, then there are certain colors you should be on the lookout for.
And even the award-winning nail educator and founder of Vikki Swan Nail Academy, Vikki Swan, highly recommends keeping your skin tone in mind when it comes to manicures. "When choosing a nail polish color, I think it's important to consider not only current trends but also your natural skin tone and undertone," Swan exclusively shared with Women. "The right shade can make your hands look brighter, complement your complexion, and create a more balanced look."
However, this doesn't mean you're pigeon-holed into using only a few select shades. "Almost any color can work if you find the right undertone and depth for your skin," Swan said. So, with that in mind, here are the best fall manicure shades for pale skin.
A burgundy manicure is one of the best for pale skin
With a burgundy shade, not only are you on-theme for the cooling weather, but it's also a flattering selection for pale skin. "Burgundy adds richness and contrast to pale skin without being as intense as black," Viktoriia Voloshyna, award-winning nail artist and educator, explains to Women. What's more, a burgundy manicure exudes luxury and class while being the ideal accompaniment for any outfit you're wearing. This makes perfect sense, considering burgundy is one of the best fall fashion colors for pale skin tones.
Yet for pale skin, it's highly advised to turn to burgundy shades with cool undertones for the best fall manicure look. And according to Swan, the latter fits best on pale skin with certain undertones. "I especially like [cool burgundy] on skin with pink or cool undertones, and it looks elegant even on very short nails." Although short nails are an option, going for long nails shaped into squares or a softer almond shape could work just as well. You may even consider incorporating subtle nail adornments like rhinestones or pearls, though a glossy finish always does best with this shade.
Look for these specific blue tones this fall
Navy blue is certainly an out-of-the-box option for pale skin this fall, but it shouldn't be discounted either. The shade had a fashion moment on the catwalks of Paris in 2026, so now is the perfect time to get this in vogue color to grace your nails. "Navy gives pale skin a beautiful contrast, while still looking softer and more wearable than pure black," Voloshyna exclusively told us. "It is a great option for someone who wants a dark fall manicure that still feels refined." To execute this look at home, choose Manucurist's Natural Nail Polish in Navy Blue for the ideal manicure.
But if you find navy blue to be too intense, then there are other shades of blue that are also complementary to pale skin. In fact, smoky blue should also be up for consideration. It might not seem the color that's on-trend for fall, but this grayish-blue shade might just be up your alley. "A muted blue with gray undertones is a beautiful alternative to traditional fall colors," Swan said. "It creates a softer contrast against fair skin than bright blue." This soft nail look goes well if you're dressing in pastels, and is a truly stunning, unique shade. DND Gel's Summer Fuji #097 is as on-the-nose as it gets to a smoky blue.
A classic red is always an irresistible shade
Similar to a red lip, red nail polish is a universally wearable shade for all skin tones — of course, this includes pale skin. "Whether you are looking for a bolder manicure or one that can still act as a neutral to take you from day to night, red is versatile, flattering, and a great color for anyone to choose," Deborah Lippmann, manicurist-to-the-stars, told Vogue. As a result, it's tempting to instantly go for the usual bright, vibrant classic red to adorn your nails this fall. However, as mentioned previously, it's always best to keep your undertone in mind, with Lippmann noting that neutral undertones could rock true red shades like OPI's Nail Lacquer in Big Apple Red.
But if you'd like to jazz things up and add a bit more glam to your red manicure, then we have our favorite ways to put a twist on classic red nails. You can opt for an elegant French manicure, add gold flakes, or even choose a chrome or ombre effect. For a more complex and ornate nail look, nail art designs that could include roses and hearts in different nail lengths are also an option. Truly, you can never go wrong with a classic red.
Don't skip out on this rosy nude shade
Among the nude shades available for the nails, pale skin would definitely benefit from a dusty rose polish. Popular with celebs like Victoria Beckham, a dusty rose manicure would certainly be a dreamy look against pale skin. In fact, one of our resident nail experts has a specific recommendation when it comes to this color. "Dusty rose looks soft and polished on pale skin, but I would choose a shade slightly deeper than the natural skin tone so it does not disappear into the hands," Voloshyna exclusively shared with Women. Essie's Eternal Optimist nail polish is one of the best and most affordable nail polishes in this shade.
But if you find a simple coat of this color to be too dull for fall, it would please you to learn that dusty rose is ideal to pull off some of the best minimalist nail trends out there. From bubble bath nails to soap nails, which is a minimalist manicure trend that's so easy to nail, the dusty rose shade helps give your nails a healthy look. But aside from giving your hands a generally well-groomed appearance, Swan actually advises taking care of your nails regardless. "No matter which color you choose, clean cuticle work, a well-balanced nail shape, and smooth application are what really make a manicure look polished and elegant," she told us, and we couldn't agree more.
