Susan Lucci & Her Husband Spent Decades As One Of Hollywood's Hottest Couples

Add Women on Google:

The name Susan Lucci is one of the biggest in daytime soaps, having established her legacy as Erica Kane from "All My Children". But aside from her prosperous career, it might surprise you to learn that Lucci had a love story for the ages to match. The "Devious Maids" star married the love of her life, Helmut Huber, in 1969, and the pair were together for the next 52 years until Huber's death in 2022.

It was an understatement to say that Huber was the shoulder she leaned on throughout their marriage, accompanying her to red carpet events and generally being a great support to her. The loss of her husband left Lucci in a lot of pain, and she struggled to move on. "I was completely lost [after he died]. And it's so isolating," Lucci confessed exclusively to People. Although Lucci has learned to manage her heartache and forge on with her career, we wanted to highlight the moments when Lucci and Huber were one of Hollywood's hottest and most loving couples.

An unbreakable bond from the start

While Susan Lucci's iconic character, Erica Kane, had numerous husbands, the actor herself was content with just one. It seemed to have been a destined love, with that love clearly seen in the above image. Posted to Lucci's Instagram account back in 2019, she implied that this photo of them dancing together was taken during the early days of their marriage. "Throwback to mid 70's/before babies — dancing with my handsome husband at Club A!!!" Lucci wrote happily in the caption, showing how deep her affection for her husband was.

They clearly couldn't be apart from each other long

15 years after they stood before the altar and said 'I do' to each other, it's evident that the love between them is still going strong. This black-and-white picture was snapped during the 1984 Annual Daytime Emmy Awards, with the couple seated as close as possible to one another. This shows how much Huber was an irreplaceable shoulder for Lucci to lean on, as he continued to accompany her to awards shows and other events until his passing.

He was ecstatic to celebrate Lucci's wins

Helmut Huber and Susan Lucci's relationship is certainly on par with these sweet snaps of Rita Wilson and Tom Hanks that highlight their decades of love. In a picture snapped in 2004, Huber was in a joyous and affectionate mood, leaning down to kiss a grinning Lucci on the cheek. There was much to celebrate for the couple, as Lucci had just won the 2004 Muse Award for Outstanding Vision and Achievement. Huber and Lucci certainly were the ideal embodiment of a couple who support and celebrate each other's achievements.

They were not afraid to show their love for each other on the red carpet

It's clear that after decades of marriage, the love was still strong between the pair. On the red carpet (a place Lucci knows how to wow with her red dresses) for the 2009 Child Protection Agency Gala, Lucci and Huber hugged each other tightly while looking absolutely dapper. It's evident that Lucci never stopped loving Huber throughout their marriage. "You do something good every day and you remember every day why you fell in love," she exclusively shared with People. "You don't lose track of that and tell him."

The look of love

Susan Lucci is a firm proponent of many health-minded causes, and it's very wholesome that Huber was all for it. The Daytime Emmy winner spoke at a Facing AFIB conference in 2010 to advocate for greater attention towards those at risk of stroke, which is a condition Huber had been diagnosed with at the time. In a show of love and dedication, Lucci took the stage, and during her speech, the former "Deadly Affairs" host laid a hand on her husband's shoulder, to which Huber shot her a look that truly warmed the heart.

They spent as much time together as possible

Lucci and Huber appeared to be sincerely happy as they left the Harper's Bazaar ICONS party back in 2018. Dressed in a sharp blue suit and black bow tie to complement the 21-time Daytime Emmy nominee's skin-tight, strappy black leather gown, they were certainly the 'It' couple of the night. The couple stayed close to each other throughout the event, and Huber appeared as though he could not take his hands off his wife, and we can't blame him.

Huber happily accompanied Lucci to The American Heart Association event

Huber made sure he was dressed to impress when he attended the 2020 American Heart Association's Go Red for Women Red Dress Collection event alongside his wife. It's understandable why, considering Susan Lucci stepped out in one of her best red carpet looks ever, donning a strapless blood-red gown and a ruffled mantle. Huber likely knew that this event meant a lot to his wife, as Lucci is a staunch advocate for heart disease prevention, which makes his appearance all the sweeter.

A love to last lifetimes

It seemed Susan Lucci and Helmut Huber never got tired of being in each other's company, as seen in the image above. While attending the 2002 opening night for "Into the Woods", a camera snapped this heartfelt, tender moment between the couple. Lucci and Huber smiled as they looked into each other's eyes, with Huber keeping a hand on Lucci's waist at all times.

"And he still makes me laugh, lucky me," Lucci shared in a 2017 interview with People. Truly, they were the definition of 'couple goals'.
