Susan Lucci, 79, Wows In A Glittering Ruby Red Gown At Met Opera Opening Gala
Actor Susan Lucci proved that being in your 70s doesn't mean losing your sex appeal when she stepped out at the 2026 Met Gala Opening Gala in a glittering red dress. The "All My Children" star styled the strapless Caroline Herrera gown with a furry red stole and a beaded Valentino clutch. She also amped up the sparkle with a sparkling collar necklace, bejeweled earrings, and a silver chain bracelet.
The fan reaction to the stunning look was overwhelmingly positive. "She is a LIVING DOLL!" wrote one Instagram commenter. "Red is definitely your color," added another Instagram user. "Just beautiful!" It's not the first time that Lucci's eclectic style has made her a red carpet star.
While Hollywood might have outdated expectations about what women should wear after a certain age, Lucci isn't letting the opinion of other people box her in. In her 70s, she has been known to confidently bare her legs and arms. "I feel as good now as I ever did in my 20s and 30s, maybe even better physically," she told Harper's Bazaar.
Susan Lucci says Pilates are helping her age confidently
Amid the Hollywood pressure to stay looking eternally youthful, many famous women opt to step back from the spotlight. Others resort to covering their arms and shoulders on the red carpet. But Susan Lucci, who doesn't like the phrase "aging gracefully," isn't afraid to show a little skin in her seventies. That's partly because she maintains a rigorous fitness routine that helps her feel great in her own skin.
In fact, Lucci's favorite low-impact exercise is perfect for older women. "I think [Pilates] is so good for wellness all-around—certainly for your body, because it sculpts and tones long, lean dancer-like muscles without bulking up, and, at the same time, you can get a cardio workout. Along with looking better, you are actually getting more fit, getting more energy, getting stronger, and improving your posture, sense of balance, and flexibility," Lucci told New Beauty. "There's a confidence from gaining all of those benefits." It's clear that her workouts help Lucci feel great rocking a strapless gown at the Met Opera.
