If you're a fan of historical fiction or dramatic romance, you more than likely know Kristin Hannah's work. The popular author has sold more than 25 million books (via Pan Macmillan), and she's even had her work adapted for the small screen ("Firefly Lane" starring Katherine Heigl and Sarah Chalke ran for two seasons on Netflix). Hannah's books predominantly focus on strong female protagonists, with her inspirational characters blazing their own trails with emotional stories that have readers reaching for their tissues.
"I began writing historical fiction—love stories, mostly—and then I moved on to novels about modern women, stories that looked at women's inner lives, our struggles and our triumphs," Hannah told The Novelry in 2022. (We previously ranked Kristin Hannah's most beloved historical fiction books, if that's your genre.) "In the past decade, I have focused primarily on lost women's history. I am fascinated—and irritated—by the amount of women's history that has been lost or marginalized. I want to find these stories and breathe life into them and celebrate the enduring durability of women and our ability to survive and even thrive in the darkest of times," she added. And through books like "The Woman" and "Home Front," she's certainly done that.
As of September 2026, Hannah has published 25 books, but some have proven more popular than others. To find out which of her releases rank among her best regardless of genre, we did some sleuthing. We ranked the top 15 according to their user-given ratings (out of 5.0) on Goodreads at the time of writing, so you can decide which Hannah novel should be moved to the front of your TBR list.

How we determined Kristin Hannah's best books
To be considered one of Kristin Hannah's best books so far, each novel had to be one of the top 15 highest-rated novels out of 5.0 on Goodreads at the time of writing. We also analyzed user reviews on the site. If two books had the same rating at the time of writing, the book with more ratings was placed higher.
