When fall breezes into our lives with all its orange leaves, it's natural to change up our fashion color palette. We tend to put away the brighter shades of summer and bring out the darker hues, like blacks and burgundies. But did you know there are specific fall fashion colors that will look particularly gorgeous if you have a darker skin tone? "One thing I love about darker skin tones is how beautifully they carry rich, saturated colors. Fall is full of these shades." Jeannie Stith, CEO of Color Guru, tells Women.com exclusively.
Just remember though that the most flattering color for you isn't only about the surface color of your skin. "I always remind people that your skin tone tells us part of the story, but your undertone, contrast, and overall coloring (including your hair, skin, and eye color) tell us so much more," Stith explains. "That's why I love seasonal color analysis. It's not about putting everyone with a certain skin tone into the same color palette. It's about discovering the specific colors that make YOU look your most vibrant," she adds. That's why Stith not only broke down the most complimentary fall shades for darker skin, but also revealed which undertones it'll flatter best too.
Burnt orange compliments warm undertones
"There's something so beautiful about burnt orange against deep warm skin tones," Jeannie Stith says, exclusively, of one of the most classic fall shades. "The warmth in the color brings out the golden undertones in the skin, creating a really harmonious look," she adds. Just remember though that not all dark skin tones automatically have warm undertones. If you're unsure, the easiest way to determine your undertone is to analyze your veins. If they lean cooler (in shades like blues or purples) you have a cool undertone. If they're greener, your undertone is warm. A mix of the two? Then you have a neutral undertone.
Warm tone beauties, enjoy the benefits of flattering burnt orange via Simplee's Velvet Dress in Burnt Orange, which can be paired with boots (and tights when it's chilly!) for a look that screams fall. If pants are more your thing, try the Feiersi Casual Wide Leg Pants in Orange Yellow. These practical bottoms could work for all your fall activities, from getting scared at a haunted house to Thanksgiving dinner.
Though pairing burnt orange with other colors can seem daunting, there's really nothing to be afraid of. "I love pairing burnt orange with deep chocolate brown, olive green, or a warm ivory," Stith says. "Gold jewelry is the perfect finishing touch," she adds. Bold jewelry has been one of 2026's hottest fashion trends, so don't be afraid to make a statement with your gold accessories.
Deep magenta should be your fall go-to if you have cool undertones
If you have darker skin with cooler undertones, Jeannie Stith recommends dressing up in deep magenta. "This is such an underrated fall color," she exclusively tells us, noting it brings a lot of brightness to the face. Allsense's Long-Sleeve V-Neck Cardigan in Magenta is a fun and cozy way to inject this color into your wardrobe. It'll also look effortlessly chic alongside fall's hottest denim trends in jeans. Then there's the EIMIN Flared Lightweight Midi Skirt in Magenta, which will spice up your bottom half in a classy way and it'll help keep you a little warmer when paired with a sweater or jacket.
When it comes to pairing your deep magenta garments, Stith notes the hue looks particularly flattering when worn alongside charcoal gray and navy pieces. These shades lean toward cool, so will create a harmonious feel alongside your skin's undertones. They can also both work as fun twists on neutrals, so won't overwhelm your statement pink look.
Cobalt blue creates a stunning contrast against dark skin
Jeannie Stith recommends cobalt blue because of the deep contrast it creates against darker skin tones, no matter what your skin's undertone. "It's bold without being overpowering, and it really makes the skin glow," she explains. Though this eye-catching shade may not be the first one you think of when you think fall, Stith explains it's perfect for the season because it works well with so many more traditional fall shades, like chocolate brown. "It's an unexpected combination that feels sophisticated and fresh," she says, noting, "Cobalt also looks beautiful with camel, crisp white, and silver jewelry."
Make a statement and stay warm as the weather turns cooler in Jenkoon's Wool Trench Coat in Blue, which will carry you through fall and all the way into winter. If you're somewhere a little warmer that doesn't require outerwear this pumpkin season, try PRETTYGARDEN's Oversized Chunky Cardigan Sweater in Royal Blue. Pair it with tailored brown pants and a brown bag to make it super fall-chic. Even better, blue and brown are two colors that look great together for fall 2026.
Gold will help accentuate warm undertones
You're a queen, so why not dress like it? Gold is another fall color that can highlight the richness of dark skin, particularly if you have warm undertones. It's flattering because it helps pull out that warmth and ismuch easier than you think to wear too. Of course, you can go all out in gold via the super sexy Memoriesea Luxury Metallic Halter Maxi Dress in Gold, which is sure to make a statement at any fall parties. If you don't want something quite so bold though, stay cozy this fall with gold accessories that will brighten up the grayer days, like the Floerns Sequin Silk Scarf in Gold.
Because gold garments can be a real statement piece, it's a good idea to keep the rest of your wardrobe simple. Gold can really pop against black, which is a deliciously dark hue that's perfect for the season that houses Halloween. Equally, white can help accentuate gold, so try pairing a gold top or sweater with white pants. The long-standing 'no white after Labor day' fashion rule is totally outdated anyway.
