The Fall 2026 Nail Color Trends You'll Want To Wear All Season

It's finally that time. The leaves are falling, the wind is blowing, and the PSLs are PSL-ing. That also means it's time to break out the tall boots, thick scarves, and pumpkin nail color. Or is it? It appears that the popular nail colors have changed significantly for fall 2026.

Women spoke to an expert to get the inside scoop on which polishes, shades, and finishes will be most in demand. "Lately, I've noticed that people are experimenting more," Viktoriia Voloshyna, award-winning nail educator and founder of Tory Pro Nails Studio in Beverly Hills, California, exclusively told Women. "They are trying chrome, cat-eye, matte finishes, and translucent colors. The shades are changing, too." Voloshyna shared that popular nail colors, like pumpkin orange, are still going to be around, but people are thinking outside the box. She added, "Instead of choosing only traditional fall colors, clients are trying muted gray-blue, fig, plum, and other shades with more unusual undertones."

This change to the fall manicure playbook is thanks largely to the fall collections designers debuted earlier this year. "We often see colors, fabrics, prints, and finishes from Fashion Week adapted into nail designs to complement the entire look," Voloshyna said. Social media has a big impact, too. "A color or effect can become popular very quickly after an influencer or celebrity wears it," she confirmed.

Cacao Brown

The urge to curl up with a steaming cup of hot cocoa is about to become irresistible, so you might as well color coordinate with your manicure. "Cacao brown is a deep, warm brown that looks calm and expensive," Viktoriia Voloshyna pointed out exclusively to Women. "It works well for fall and reminds me of seasonal fabrics like suede and cashmere." You've almost certainly got some of those fabrics in your fall wardrobe, offering even more opportunities to match up.

Burgundy

Viktoriia Voloshyna confirmed exclusively to Women what we've long suspected: Malbec-toned nails are the most elegant cold-weather mani. For fall 2026, however, she encourages file-o-philes to consider putting their own fresh spin on this standard shade. "It is already a fall classic, but this year, I think we will see it with matte, glossy, chrome, and cat-eye finishes," she said. Burgundy is the perfect transitional nail color for fall, so don't be afraid to hop on this trend too early.

Muted Olive

Summer neon lovers, rejoice! You don't have to give up green for fall. "Muted olive is a softer alternative to a bright green," Viktoriia Voloshyna exclusively pointed out to Women. In fact, soft green is one of the simplest shades to work with as the weather cools down. "It reminds me of natural, earthy colors and is easy to combine with a fall wardrobe," Voloshyna added. Remember the '70s-inspired dirty martini green manicure trend of fall 2023? There's a reason it keeps coming back.

Deep Plum

Thinking about breaking away from your typical fall colors? You don't have to stick with shades of red and brown just because the autumn leaves do. Consider deep plum, which Viktoriia Voloshyna describes as "a rich color between plum and aubergine," to stand out from the crowd. "It is a good choice for someone who wants something different from the usual red, burgundy, or brown fall manicure," Voloshyna exclusively confirmed to Women. Thanks to its cool undertone, it looks especially good on those whose skin might clash with warmer autumn colors.

Midnight Sapphire Blue

Speaking of cool undertones, "rich, dark blue," as Viktoriia Voloshyna describes it, may be considered more of a winter color, but she predicts it will be one of fall 2026's most popular shades. It's a particularly good choice for those who have a touch of chameleon in them. "I love colors like this because they can look completely different depending on the lighting," Voloshyna exclusively told Women. "In low light, it can look almost black, but when the light hits it, the blue becomes much more visible." Love to read fall mysteries? Now's your chance to be a fall mystery.
