Fall 2026 means an overhaul of wardrobes and color schemes, but we would be remiss to forget hair trends as well. And while we've covered the hair color trends that will be everywhere for fall 2026, we now want to focus on older women specifically. This season will see many hair trends that are ideal for women over 50, with styles and colors meant to flatter and accentuate your best features. So that's why we spoke to founder of Jewell Clip and hairstylist-to-the-stars Jewell Hingorani, for her insight on the hair trends that you should look out for this season.

"This fall, hair feels natural, polished and intentional. We're seeing statement-making volume through big blowouts and waves, balanced by sleek cuts and natural dimensional colors that enhance what you already have," Hingorani exclusively explained to Women. There are certainly remnants of the natural aesthetic favored by the summer 2026 hair trends perfect for older women, but this season is the time for shorter, layered cuts that also take into consideration common hair problems that come with age. So without further ado, here are the hair trends for older women to keep an eye on in fall 2026.

You can never go wrong with a lightweight topper

Hair loss is one of the most prevalent hair struggles older women face. This is why this season's hair trends are all about mitigating the appearance of a thinning scalp, and no human invention does that better than hair toppers. Unlike hair extensions, hair toppers are specifically intended to give your scalp and overall look a much fuller appearance, while matching the natural tone of your hair.

"Many women experience thinning as they age," Hingorani exclusively shared with us. "Lightweight toppers are a beautiful way to restore natural-looking volume without adding too much hair." It is possible to obtain and apply a hair topper to yourself at home. However, if this is your first time using one and you're unsure about it, then we recommend going to a trusted hair salon to put a hair topper on for you and style it with your natural hair.

A blunt bob is the hairstyle you need this fall

The bob haircut is a classic one, but the blunt bob is having a moment this season. And it's no surprise, considering it's one of the eight youthful haircuts for older women that is totally on trend in 2026. Not only does it go well with your outfits and elevate your look to one fit for a couture runway, but it also helps make you look younger. And as seen on the image above of Oscar winner Julianne Moore, who was 64 when the picture was taken in 2025, the latter statement is ringing true.

"This style creates the appearance of fuller, thicker hair, while giving women a modern, polished and slightly edgy look," celebrity hairstylist Hingorani detailed to us. Blunt bobs are characterized by their symmetrical strands that frame the face beautifully. This hair trend can be chin-length or skim right above the shoulders, making it the perfect stylish cut for any season for those who are into low-maintenance hairstyles.

Adding layers to your haircut is the ultimate style touch-up

Our hairstyling expert Jewell Hingorani highly advocates going for layers next time you decide to visit your local hair salon. This hairstyle is the ultimate go-to for accentuating your best features, and if executed well, could make your face look slimmer. What's more, it gives the illusion of making your hair look thicker as well. Truly, what more can you ask for?

"Light layers around the face add movement and softness without requiring a lot of maintenance," Hingorani tells us, before adding, "They are versatile, flattering and can be styled smooth, wavy or with a voluminous blowout." And it's been a hit with older celebrities as well, with Viola Davis combining the best of both worlds with a layered, curly blunt bob. It certainly adds volume and flatters her slightly rounded face, which is definitely your sign to add this hair trend to your list for consideration.

Infusing highlights to your natural grays is the way to go

Being afraid of graying hair seems to be a thing of the past, with celebs leading the charge in welcoming their naturally graying locks with open arms. But that doesn't mean you should just leave it as it is, as fall 2026 is the season to add a bit of flair to your ashen locks. According to Hingorani, there is a rising trend of infusing 'Louis Vuitton brown,' which was a hair color that was popular in spring 2022.

"We're also seeing what I call 'Louis Vuitton brown,' a rich chocolate-brown base with light-brown highlights that adds warmth and dimension and is perfect for fall," the beauty entrepreneur outlined exclusively to Women. While this look is definitely easier to care for compared to an all-out dye job, it's still pivotal to care for your hair after a visit to the hair salon. In fact, it's recommended to use leave-in hair masks such as the Fino Premium Touch Hair Mask to keep your locks moisturized in combination with shampoos for color-treated hair. And trust us, the results are well worth it.
