Dolly Parton rocked statement manicures throughout her career, proving that long nails were not only a great accessory, but also a musical asset. She famously used her talons as a musical instrument while recording "9 to 5," one of the most beloved songs in her massive discography. When she was on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," the two started singing the hit song. When Fallon remarked on Parton's ability to keep the rhythm by tapping her nails, Parton admitted, "When I actually wrote this song, I used my acrylic nails on the set when I was writing it. They make noise that kind of sounds like a typewriter." 

Parton was always defying expectations. As anyone who has taken guitar lessons knows, long nails are generally frowned upon on the fretting hand, because they tend to get in the way of pressing down on the strings. But did this apply to Dolly? No way. The diva strummed her way through a 60-year career in music and 50 studio albums with nails as long as she wanted.
