The Simple Skincare Tip From Beauty Guru Laura Geller That Will Help You See Actual Results

Laura Geller is a veteran in the beauty space, founding her eponymous makeup brand, "Laura Geller Beauty," in 1997. With so many years in the industry, it stands to reason that Geller understands the needs of aging skin better than most. And as an expert in formulating makeup products ideal for older women, Geller knows skincare is an important factor in making it all click to feel your best as you age.

In fact, she emphasizes the importance of adjusting your skincare routine to cater to mature skin. "Just like your makeup, you also have to relook at your skincare sometimes," Geller exclusively shares with Prevention, continuing, "It doesn't even matter what decade you're in, shaking up your skincare routine is going to sort of propel your skin to change." And for Geller, this entails swapping out some of the current products in your skincare routine for some hard-hitting anti-aging ingredients like retinol. But simply focusing on your skincare routine isn't the only thing to do when tackling aging skin.

Primer is a huge help for mature skin

As you grow older, some things become non-negotiables. Mature skin requires a whole load of TLC before a makeup brush ever touches it, and according to Geller, a surefire way to ensure a smooth canvas is primer. Since one of the main concerns for mature skin is fine lines and wrinkles, the five best primers for dry skin are ideal for tackling these problems. In fact, Geller states that primers could allow you to skip your moisturizer entirely. "You really can shelve your moisturizers and serums and just use a hydrating primer," Geller told Prevention, adding, "but always something with SPF too."

But aside from using primer, Geller has another very simple tip to help older women do their makeup more efficiently. And it has nothing to do with heading to your nearest Sephora for the latest cream blushes or foundations. It's a detail most of us easily overlook, but with a hugely simple solution: get a magnifying mirror. "As you get older, your eyesight starts to be more challenging," Geller informed the publication. "The closer you see yourself ... the better your makeup is going to look." Doing your makeup as an older woman doesn't have to be so daunting, and Geller proves that for every concern, there's always a solution.
