Legendary '60s Model Twiggy Swears By This Workout If You're Over 40

1960s model Twiggy knows just how important it is to maintain a healthy lifestyle in your older years. Ever since she hurt her back some 10 years ago, the British icon has sworn by Pilates and insists it's the best workout for women over 40 after seeing the results it gave her.

"I do Pilates once a week ... It's turned my life around. I recommend it to anyone over 40," she told Saga Magazine in 2025. "I started that about ten years ago because I hurt my back. I was going to a therapist about it, and he said I should start Pilates to build up my core." Proven to improve core strength, full-body flexibility, and posture, Pilates also offers relief of lower back pain through low-impact exercises. Additionally, research shows that it has several psychological and emotional benefits that can improve your overall quality of life.

It explains why Twiggy is still so stunning in her 70s, but the former model says while staying active is important, consistency is key. "Yes, especially as you get older. I think the worst thing anyone can do is to stop," she continued. "We've all read those stories of people who give up work and don't do anything. If you give up work, you've got to have another interest, whether it's in a charity or creating something or travelling, otherwise I think you just stagnate."

Twiggy's interesting advice for healthy eating: 'I've never dieted'

Like many celebs who take working out & improving their health seriously, Twiggy commits to one-hour Pilates sessions with her longtime trainer, Rachel, every week. When it comes to her diet, however, the "Tea with Twiggy" podcast host says she simply listens to her body. "I've never dieted; I've always eaten what I wanted. Your body tells you what you need to eat," she told Woman & Home in 2018. "Healthy eating in moderation is usually the best advice, diet-wise." As for what she considers 'healthy eating', the star explained, "Now I think you are what you eat, so I try to buy organic when I can, especially meat, and I love to cook. I love my bread. And I'll have a glass of wine most nights."

Evidently, the '60s beauty has unlocked her personal secret code to aging gracefully and has no intention of interfering with the natural aging process. "I haven't had anything done," she told Woman & Home. "I think injectables are the things to steer clear of because they make people look so weird. All the stuff pumped into lips and those ball cheek things?" Though she doesn't plan on undergoing any cosmetic procedures herself, she advises anyone considering them to do their homework. "I think, if you really feel the need, research it well and get the best surgeon," she urged.
