Kate Middleton has a massive budget when it comes to clothing, and there's no time like a red carpet to flex this spending power. Kate is known to wear pricey pieces often; her Alexander McQueen wedding dress was reportedly $434,000 and this didn't even include her wedding reception dress. So the Princess of Wales isn't shy about dropping some dough on fancy clothes, and these pricey outfits of Kate's highlight how lavish her life really is. 

But it's Kate's red carpet outfits that have been notably expensive. These red carpet moments typically include Royal Variety Performances, the BAFTA awards, or special film premieres. They're rare and special moments; she and Prince William aren't frequent attendees at these kinds of events, which is why their presence is so memorable and quite likely why Kate blows the doors off when it comes to her looks. Kate pays for her glitzy wardrobe through her and Prince William's income, which comes from his private estate, the Duchy of Cornwall. While not exactly a salary, this fund covers the personal expenses of Kate and William and, according to an E! News report in 2025, their annual funding from this estate is about $30 million. No wonder Kate can spare no expense when it comes to these red carpet looks. From gowns to shoes to jewelry, Kate's a big spender! 

Kate Middleton showed that simplicity can be best when she attended the premiere for "Top Gun: Maverick" with Prince William on May 19, 2022, at Leicester Square in London, England. For the occasion, she chose a black and white gown by Roland Mouret with black accessories, and the sleek look vied for a spot on the list of Kate's most sophisticated monochromatic outfits. The Roland Mouret gown cost approximately $3,600 U.S. dollars. On top of that, her Robinson Pelham Tsar star drop earrings cost over $16,000 U.S. dollars, so the look as a whole was pricey. 

When Kate Middleton visited Pakistan with Prince William in October 2019 on a royal tour, she attended a special reception in a green sequin gown by Jenny Packham. Since the flag of Pakistan features this exact shade of emerald green, Kate's dress was a nod to diplomatic dressing. It was also a nod to her massive budget. According to Vogue Australia, this gown reportedly cost $5,900. She paired this with Jimmy Choo heels worth $800 and a pair of Onitaa earrings worth about $390. So all in all, the look cost over $7,000. 

Kate Middleton absolutely slayed at the James Bond premiere of "No Time to Die" in October 2021. She wore a gold sequin cape dress by her beloved Jenny Packham, clearly a favorite designer of the princess. The gown retails for $5,488, and Kate styled the dress with a pair of Aquazzura 'Fenix 105' gold metallic heels that cost around $750. Finally, Kate finished off the look with a pair of custom, gold Onitaa earrings worth $3,500. So the whole look for the premiere cost over $9,700. 

Kate Middleton visited Oslo, Norway, with Prince William in February 2018 while visiting Scandinavia. While attending a dinner at the Royal Palace, Kate emerged in a dreamy blush-pink cape gown by Alexander McQueen. She was pregnant at the time with her third child, Prince Louis, and so the dress featured an empire waist to accommodate her pregnancy. Kate wore Van Cleef & Arpels jewelry and styled the dress with a pair of Gianvito Rossi heels decked out with Swarovski crystals, which sell for $1,600 U.S. dollars. 

Kate Middleton looked absolutely radiant at the BAFTAs in February 2017.
