Side-By-Side Pics Highlight Jami Gertz's Gorgeous Gray Hair Transformation

Actor Jami Gertz will always be remembered for her iconic roles in '80s and '90s cinema, most notably in "The Lost Boys," "Twister," and "Sixteen Candles." Beyond her sharp acting chops, Gertz has long rocked her signature dark, voluminous waves, only straying so far as to try different cuts and styles but never really experimenting with bold or drastic colors. Embarking on her 60s, however, Gertz has experienced a natural transition to gray, and she's all for it.

In an appearance at the "Magic City: An American Fantasy" screening in August 2025 (below right), it's clear to see why the transition was so easy. The "Still Standing" star wore her hair in a classic half-up, half-down style with loose waves that created an effortlessly elegant look while subtly showcasing her silvery-white new growth. Compared to her fully dark-colored hair in 2012 (below left), Gertz's gray strands framed the front of her hair and blended naturally throughout the length, striking the perfect balance with her brunette base for a polished, sophisticated finish.

For women over 50, embracing graying hair often comes with emotional challenges. While some fear looking older and continue coloring their locks, others, like Gertz, rock their gray hair with confidence. "These choices are definitely related to a sense of female empowerment and choosing to age gracefully, versus modifying their appearance to fit into societal 'expectations' of women," clinical psychologist Hillary Ammon said (via Flow Space). "The choice of leaving your hair as its natural color — even if gray — seems to fall under the umbrella of body positivity, which has been embraced more and more by individuals, as well as corporations."

Since purchasing the Atlanta Hawks alongside her billionaire husband, Tony Ressler, in 2015, Gertz hasn't had many big screen appearances. In fact, the move was an intentional one. After appearing in the 2022 rom-com, "I Want You Back," she decided to step back from acting. "It just seemed like a natural moment for me to take a break from acting," she told The Hollywood Reporter. "It's hard to even say it out loud, because I love what I do. It's given me so many beautiful things in my life, taught me so many things about myself and the world around me."

In the years since, Gertz has been more focused on her role as an NBA owner than being a Hollywood celebrity. A shift that is reflected in her increasingly rare public appearances, where she seems to prefer less of a glam look and more of an understated, relatable image.

Rather than chasing a dramatically youthful appearance, Gertz appears more interested in aging gracefully and authentically. Similar to those celebrities who are avoiding plastic surgery and the overly polished look often associated with heavy Botox or fillers as they age, the "Jersey Girl" actor has instead adopted a refined, confident style that highlights both elegance and experience. Gertz also joins a long list of celebs who have embraced their graying natural hair color, including Jamie Lee Curtis, Salma Hayek, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Andie MacDowell.
