The Transformation Of Catherine Zeta-Jones' Daughter, Carys Zeta Douglas

It's one thing to have a famous parent, but when both of your parents are globally recognized movie stars, it's an entirely different level of star power. Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones have been married since 2000 and have together welcomed two children: Dylan Douglas and Carys Zeta Douglas. Their youngest, Carys Zeta Douglas, is now in her 20s and is walking proof that their family's showbiz legacy has entered a dazzling new chapter.

Her transformation from a child snapped by the paparazzi to a stunning young woman might be all the more captivating because she didn't grow up in the spotlight like Willow Smith, a nepo baby who looks just like her mom. Her parents opted to raise her and her brother privately rather than under the constant glare of Hollywood, and Zeta Douglas' famous mother's perspective on parenting might give you insight into why.

In an August 2025 promotional interview for Netflix's "Wednesday" with AP, Zeta-Jones shared that she couldn't really relate to her character Morticia, as she's 'never had a contentious relationship with [her] daughter.' In fact, when it came to parenting, she advised people to 'allow [their] children to make mistakes.' With that philosophy, Zeta-Jones and Douglas allowed their children to find their footing in private, resulting in a normal-as-possible upbringing for Carys Zeta Douglas, who has undergone a stunning transformation

2003-2009: Carys Zeta Douglas spent early childhood living on an island

Although she was born in New Jersey in 2003, Carys Zeta Douglas spent her formative childhood years in Bermuda, removed from Hollywood and oblivious to her parents' fame. Growing up in Bermuda, she was so far from the spotlight that in a 2018 exclusive joint interview with her mom for Town & Country magazine, Zeta Douglas admitted she had no clue just how famous her parents were. So much so that she believed her father was a professional 'pancake maker.'

Catherine Zeta Jones and Michael Douglas' move to Bermuda was a refreshing departure from the modern celeb playbook people are used to seeing. While many Hollywood nepo babies are introduced to the world via reality TV, a surprise cameo on a movie or music video, or on their parents' Instagrams, Zeta Douglas' upbringing was focused on a normal childhood.

This intentional seclusion was a primary focus for Zeta-Jones as a parent. In a 2021 interview with Home & Gardens, the actor reflected on her family's time in Bermuda and described it as a 'golden time.' She loved that her children grew up with a sense of normalcy and in a safe environment, one in which both parents were active and present in their daily lives. She also emphasized the importance of privacy and said that it 'was paramount for [them] bringing up [their] children.'

2009: Carys Zeta Douglas returned to NYC with her famous parents

In 2009, six-year-old Carys Zeta Douglas moved with her family to New York City so that her mother could make her Broadway debut as Desiree Armfeldt in "A Little Night Music." While the move was necessary for Catherine Zeta-Jones, for young Carys, it was a transition that made her realize just how famous her parents were. In the 2018 interview with Town & Country, she gave a candid look into that period.

Zeta Douglas explained how much she dreaded the paparazzi, who wouldn't hesitate to 'jump on the subway and sit right in front of [her].' But being raised by famous parents who prioritized keeping them grounded, at just six, Carys said she told her younger self: "If this is going to be what it's like, I need to focus on who I really am, and this is going to be something that's just going to happen, and I can't do anything about it." She simply accepted the spotlight and the new life she would have to live in NYC.

While such things are easier said than done, she tried to focus on herself and the life she would live outside of her parents' fame. She also explained in the Town & Country interview that she was able to stay grounded because her parents would constantly remind her that her life was full of privilege.

2013-2017: Carys Zeta Douglas' tween years were defined by strict parenting

As she grew up, Carys Zeta Douglas engaged more with her privileged life. Getting to join your parents on a star-studded red carpet for your father's reprisal of an iconic character is a dream for most, but for 12-year-old Carys, it was her reality. However, at home, her famous parents ran a strict program, prioritizing manners and discipline over the perks of being a nepo baby.

In the Town & Country interview, Catherine Zeta-Jones proudly said, "What I instilled in my kids ... is manners ... There's nothing worse than a privileged kid without manners. I drilled it into them like boot camp." Other than occasionally accompanying her parents to red carpet events, Zeta Douglas got to live a normal life, which allowed her to explore her own interests without the pressure of public attention.

As they say, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree, and both Douglas children showed an interest in acting. While their parents could have easily gotten them roles on a TV show or movie, they spent their teen years auditioning for school theater productions. On a 2017 appearance of "Jimmy Kimmel Live," Zeta-Jones raved about how her kids wanted to follow in their grandfather and parents' footsteps. She said, "They go to summer camp every year, they do like three musicals and straight plays, and they love it."

2018: Carys Zeta Douglas stepped into the spotlight on her own terms

2018 was a transformative year for Carys Zeta Douglas, who was no longer just the young girl accompanying her parents to high-profile events. At 15, Zeta Douglas, who was starting to look like her mother's twin, stepped into her own spotlight, gracing the cover of Town & Country magazine with her mother. She gave fans an idea of what it was like growing up with famous parents, and went to New York Fashion Week and sat front row with A-list celebs like Nicole Kidman, whose daughter Sunday Rose has also totally transformed, at the Michael Kors show.

While Carys openly admitted in the Town & Country interview that she wasn't a fan of having a famous last name, it was thanks to that family name that the teen had already accrued more than 50K followers on Instagram. It was clear her magazine cover debut meant the world to her as she took to Instagram and shared the cover, thanking her mom 'for her constant support during this exciting time.'

Zeta Douglas was now a teenager ready to follow in her parents' footsteps and navigate fame on her own. Catherine Zeta-Jones also made it known she had plenty of faith in her children to achieve their dreams. During the "Jimmy Kimmel Live" appearance, Zeta-Jones proudly lauded their ambition to act, stating (via ET), "I just think that [my children have] got the talent and I know that they have the drive."

2021-2025: Carys Zeta Douglas graduated from a prestigious Swiss boarding school

Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas prioritized their children's privacy, but Zeta-Jones shared in a 2021 interview with Television Academy that their daughter was attending boarding school in Switzerland. Although Zeta Douglas remained active on Instagram during these years, her posts offered only glimpses into her life, maintaining the guarded growth her parents insisted on.

It was thanks to a May 2021 Instagram post by her mother that fans got to see Zeta Douglas graduate from the prestigious Institut Le Rosey with honors and an International Baccalaureate degree. In the fall of 2021, she would begin studying as a freshman at Brown University, which is the school her brother attended. She double majored in film and international relations and even studied abroad at King's College in London during her undergraduate career.

Of course, Carys also made the time to continue exploring her passion for being on screen. In 2024, she starred alongside actor Victoria Pedretti in a short film, "F*ck That Guy." The film's director, Hanna Gray Organschi, went on to be nominated at the Champs-Élysées Film Festival the following year. In June 2025, the youngest child of Zeta-Jones and Douglas graduated from Brown University and was ready to take on her next adventure.

2025-2026: Carys Zeta Douglas is enjoying post-grad life and is looking to make a name for herself

After graduation, Carys Zeta Douglas moved back to NYC, and in an exclusive interview with People at the PAC NYC Icons of Culture Gala in October 2025, she shared her hopes of getting back into live performance. By the spring of 2026, that hope became reality. Major media outlets reported in May that she was actively seeking talented writers to produce an Off-Broadway play. From acting to producing, it's obvious the prodigal daughter hopes to make a name for herself in showbiz. The best part? She doesn't need to rush anything at all.

While most college graduates are worried about repaying student loans and making a decent living, Carys is lucky enough to be able to take her time and explore not only her career path, but also see the world. Post-grad life looks a bit different for Carys Zeta Douglas, whose parents are some of the most famous actors in Hollywood. In fact, her life resembles the unbelievably lavish life of Shiloh Jolie, who is another nepo baby with two famous parents.

As she plans for the future, she's spent just as much time globetrotting. Whether she's in Antarctica with her family or spending time horseback riding in an open field, a quick scroll through her Instagram will prove that Zeta Douglas is quite the jet setter.
