Andie MacDowell's Subtle Gray Hair Transformation, In Photos

Going gray is inevitable, but for the denizens of Hollywood, it's another concern entirely. While most celebs obscure this sign of aging by dying their hair, some embrace it. Andie MacDowell has chosen to do the latter, echoing Jamie Lee Curtis, who gave up on hiding her gray hair and welcomed the natural look. Despite being known for her voluminous, brunette curls throughout her career, the "Groundhog Day" actor doesn't regret letting her hair turn gray, and sees the decision as empowering not only for herself, but for women everywhere. As seen in the image below, MacDowell is pictured in 2020 (left) and 2021 (right), showing how, within the space of a year, the top of her head naturally turned fully gray.

MacDowell was bolstered by the public's positive response, though she claimed the choice to let her hair be was never to make a statement. "It was just a stage in my life I wanted to experience," she told Good Housekeeping, "This is it. I don't get another chance. And I wanted to see what it felt like to look my age." Fans appreciated the actor's move, making their feelings about it known. "Beautiful with any hair color," a Facebook user commented. Another user noted, "Love the bright white on her, [it's] great [she's] being natural." It's clear that by joining the celebs who have embraced their graying natural hair, her laissez-faire approach to beauty has allowed more time for self-care.

Andie MacDowell takes good care of herself

On top of embracing her natural hair, Andie MacDowell also has some beauty tips she uses to stay looking and feeling beautiful. The award-winning actor is a big proponent of skincare. Speaking to Vogue, the professional model shared, "I always moisturize, and I also wear a lot of sunblock ..." Her skincare practice also stems from a personal place, and is something she made sure to impart to her children, telling Vogue, "I always want my children [...] to wear sunblock because my dad had some skin cancer, so it runs in the family."

But feeling and looking good as you age is also more than just taking care of your skin. MacDowell remains very active and credits her healthy physique to weight training. "I'm addicted now to weights. It's really what you need to do as you're aging. We're all [...] having our bone density checked," "The Way Home" star told InStyle, cheekily adding, "I have a great bottom ... it's unbelievable what I have accomplished by working out. And my arms are strong, everything's strong. It's fabulous." The star's subtle gray hair transformation has been part of a larger masterclass in her confronting aging with confidence, where she's meeting herself at this stage of her life and embracing it, and the results are beautiful.
