Mother-Daughter Duos On The Met Gala Carpet That Stunned
Every year on the first Monday of May, the world turns its eyes to the Metropolitan Museum of Art for a display of unrivaled, loud opulence. While the spectacle of an evening has begun to feel a teensy bit out-of-touch over the years, it remains one of the biggest nights for fashion, with many famous faces expressing themselves and celebrating their personal evolution. In many cases, as seen at the 2025 Met Gala, it's allowed us to witness how style only gets better with age. Sometimes, they've even brought their daughters along for the glamorous ride.
It's easy to see why the Met Gala is the perfect opportunity for this kind of red carpet experiment. Seeing how a celeb and their daughter interpret a theme and dress in coordination with one another, or in total contrast, adds a layer of familial warmth to the otherwise avant-garde atmosphere. Over the years, we've watched numerous mother-daughter duos absolutely crush the theme and exceed our expectations for how fashion can become a spectacle. The fact that it all happens during the same month as Mother's Day only makes it all the more special. From Anna Wintour and Bee Shaffer, to Kate and Lila Moss, these are the Met Gala mother-daughter appearances that left us stunned.
Anna Wintour & Bee Shaffer
This list wouldn't be complete without the queen of the Met Gala herself, Anna Wintour, and her forever Met Gala date, daughter and producer Bee Carrozzini. While there are so many iconic looks from this mother-daughter duo, their best is arguably one of their most subtle: their red and white gowns for the 2018 Met Gala, which was themed, "Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination." Carrozzini donned a rouge-colored, ruffled one-shoulder Valentino couture gown while Wintour offered the perfect interpretation of the theme in an elegant, off-white Chanel couture gown.
Beyoncé & Blue Ivy Carter
If lavish had a face and look, it would be Beyoncé and her daughter, Blue Ivy Carter. The 2026 Met Gala marked Blue Ivy's very first time attending, but it's unlikely to be her last, as she stepped on the red carpet towering over her mother in a custom Balenciaga gown. Beyoncé, meanwhile, looked ravishing in a diamond dress designed by the iconic designer Olivier Rousteing. She told LaLa Anthony on the red carpet (via a Vogue livestream), "It feels surreal because my daughter's here."
Nicole Kidman & Sunday Rose Kidman Urban
Nicole Kidman and Sunday Rose were arguably the chicest mother-daughter duo at the 2026 Met Gala. This was another daughter debut, and Urban did it gorgeously in a custom Dior gown. Her debut gown, which featured intricate floral detailing, looked like a walking piece of art and would easily land her on one of the best dressed lists in sync with 2026's theme: "Fashion Is Art." Kidman posed next to her daughter in a deep red sequin-detailed Chanel gown.
Kris Kardashian & Kim Kardashian
No one does mother-daughter duo looks as well as Kim Kardashian and her momager, Kris Kardashian, whose side-by-side pics show just how unrecognizable she has become. Over the years, the pair have walked the Met Gala carpet numerous times, and 2026 just might have been their best year yet. Instead of opting for anything custom-made by a luxury fashion house, Kim decided to go all out and wear a metallic orange bodysuit created by an actual artist, Allen Jones. Kris kept it chic in a Dolce & Gabbana kimono-style robe dress with colorful accents that matched Kim's outfit.
Kate Moss & Lila Moss
In 2023, supermodel Kate Moss and daughter Lila Moss stunned on the Met Gala red carpet in gowns designed by the one and only Kim Jones for Fendi. The duo truly took dressing for the occasion to another level in complementary blush hues and elegantly fluid silhouettes, which seemed apt given the theme was "Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty," and in honor of the late designer and creative director Karl Lagerfeld. Lagerfeld, who loved creating feminine designs in dreamy pastel-hues, would have approved of the duo's look.
