Giada De Laurentiis Outfits That Totally Missed The Mark

Giada De Laurentiis, chef and media personality extraordinaire, has sometimes stepped out in an outfit that missed the mark. Whether the outfit was outdated or just wrong for the occasion, De Laurentiis has made a few fashion flubs over the years. It's rare, though. The celebrity chef tends to strike the right chord, making these fashion flops that much more noticeable.

In fairness to De Laurentiis, her whole career and passion centers around food. That said, the sparkling star does curate her public persona around looking good and being stylish. For instance, when she attended the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in 2014, De Laurentiis spoke about the importance of dressing up, even in the kitchen (via Life Minute): "I've always said that you can look glamorous, be comfortable, and cook, all at once. I want to feel good everyday, no matter what I'm doing."

Part of her beauty secret is a bold, red lip, proving that bringing a pop of red into your makeup look can pay dividends. "Red lipstick is sort of my little thing right now. The red color in your lips just takes everybody's attention to your lips and not anywhere else on your face," De Laurentiis explained. Clearly, she cares about how she looks, and puts in the effort. So, these moments where De Laurentiis missed the mark were that much more surprising.

Giada De Laurentiis stepped out in an outdated 'fit with an off-the-shoulder satin black dress, tights, and black ankle boots. She posted the look on Instagram on February 17, 2026. The combo of a shapeless mini dress and ankle boots was all the rage in the 2010s. Then, the styling choice became outdated because low-ankle boots ended up cutting off the visual length of the legs, and people realized that a longer boot created a more flattering silhouette. The look earns a place on the list of outdated fashion trends to ditch in 2026.

Giada De Laurentiis explained her style philosophy to Today in 2013. "You have to remember, I have to be able to cook. I want to be able to breathe, and move around in it, but still look interesting." De Laurentiis went on: "If you're not comfortable in it, it'll show on your face and that's the most important thing." When she attended the Daytime Emmy Awards in 2019, however, De Laurentiis didn't follow her own advice, opting for a complex, high-collar blouse with shorts and heels. Her awkward body language showed she wasn't confident in her look.

While she looked incredibly fit, the all-black outfit was an instance of an outdated fashion trend that can instantly age a person. Conversely, Giada's tiny crop top and pink-tinted sunglasses felt like she was trying too hard to look young. Something more age-appropriate would have looked more elegant on the beloved chef.

For reasons known only to the individuals, people can fall for the same fashion blunder over and over again. For Giada De Laurentiis, her repeated flub appears to be ankle boots with dresses. While sharing photos on Instagram from a trip to New York in November 2025, De Laurentiis posed in a daring dress of horizontal stripes and paired this with beige ankle booties. The dress was lovely on her, but the combo of a midi-length frock with ankle boots was unflattering, and visually shortened her legs.

Giada De Laurentiis took a trip to Rome, Italy, in October 2025, and shared some touching photos from her trip on Instagram. In one post, however, De Laurentiis wore wide, loose linen trousers with a boxy, tonal vest. While this is obviously a comfortable outfit to wear when facing warm weather in Italy, the ample trousers and wide-cut of the vest overwhelmed De Laurentiis' petite frame. She tends to look better in more fitted pieces. At the very least, she would have been better off balancing a wide piece with another, more fitted garment.

Giada De Laurentiis appeared on "The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon" in March 2025 wearing a sheer lace pantsuit. The strange combination of sexy lace in a professional suit made De Laurentiis' outfit come off as incongruent. On top of that, the pantsuit was strikingly similar to the suit Margot Robbie wore to the premiere of "Dreamland" in 2019. The fact that De Laurentiis wore the same look six years later shows that the trend had already passed.
